Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

OhScar

Lurker
Received the Incredible today. When I was setting it up the phone it rebooted a couple of times that seemed random to me, but I thought maybe that was part of the setup process. After using for several hours the phone continues to reboot randomly. As an example: I was waiting on a video to load form youtube and the screen went blank and went into reboot. Once I pressed the power key to bring the phone back from sleep mode and it went to what looked like an OS screen with three or four choices to reboot or shutdown the phone. As a side note, the battery was fully charged before I went through setup. Not sure what's going on here. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Sounds like a hardware problem.

I got 2 DI today. I charged mine and set it up and have been using it without an issue. The other I charged up for my girl and when I was placing it in back in the box I accidentally hit the power switch and that reboot screen came up with 4 choices. I pulled the battery out and restarted it just fine. I have not got a chance to play with that phone yet. It could have more issues potentially I suppose.

hmm call verizon and see if they will send you another one. i got mine today and i've been playing with it since noon and no problems so far..

I have had the exact same problem. I think we got a bad unit. I am going to be taking mine back to the store for a replacement.

if you got it from a store they have to replace it within the first 15 days without a restocking fee but you have to go back to the same store

Good luck with that. They're already on backorder...

true, I work at a Verizon store and we couldn't get any, we just keep getting told "soon"

My three reboots were not random at all. My volume rocker buttons caused an entire system freeze on the lock screen. Had to pull the battery to get it working.

OK....that makes two of us then. I till be interesting to see how many others report this issue. So far so good today with no additional reboots.

Mine seems to be related to losing cell service. I have noticed today that it seems to be doing this in dead zones. There are a few places on the way to work that it seems to be rebooting. Also it rebooted in an elevator today. I am going to keep an eye on this.

Hmmm, no reboots on mine. Question for those who are having this issue...have you installed any apps, or is the device rebooting with just the stock apps installed?

On my Eris, there were a few Market apps that caused similar behavior. When I deleted them, the problem went away.

Mine started doing it out of the box. I am going to reload it and see if that helps. Probably won't get around to that until this weekend.

Mine only rebooted a few times during the port/install not after that. I did pull the battery before installing the microsd card though.

Mine is rebooting regularly but we work in an underground datacenter. We have a CDMA signal repeater but the Incredible doesn't seem to like it all the time.

I used it for hours yesterday with not one, random, reboot. Mine definitely appears to be related to signal strength.

I just had 1 random reboot this morning when surfing the web. None since *crosses fingers

Mine turned off while I was charging it through usb and now I can't get it to turn on. The light on the front is flashing like it's charging though and I've tried pulling the battery and even tried taking out the microsd card to see if I could turn it on but nothing seems to be working.

**Never mind. I guess the battery died because I was downloading a bunch of apps. I didn't know the battery could die while the phone was charging.

My brother and his friend both got theirs from the same store this morning, and both of theirs are having random reboots. He was showing me his and it just rebooted after he closed the browser. Mine is still on the charger so IDk yet if it will have the same problem. Mine was pre-ordered from Verizon.com.

Here are the results of some testing. The antenna located on the bottom left corner of the phone. I placed my phone under my desk, cupped my hands around the bottom left corner and within 30 seconds the device rebooted. Hope this helps.

Mine worked ok until just after noon. 2 random reboots back-to-back. One while using the web browser, the second immediately after the phone came back up to the home screen and I unlocked it.

My incredible (purchased at the store this morning) kept rebooting... I took it back to the store and we tried three other phones and everyone of them would keep rebooting themselves... Another customer with one came in with the same issue while I was there... However, two other customer phones in the same little store was not having the issue. I ended up just returning it... Guess I will wait until a fix is out or try another store... Seems pretty widespread from what I gather... I am in NOLA

That sux. Sounds like a certain batch of them maybe? My phone is having no problems. Been sitting here listening to a postcast on it for the past 1/2 hour. No random reboots since I got it yesterday.
