Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

My phone has rebooted several times over the last couple of days. Finally I took the battery out and put it back in and the back got really hot and my charge went from 3/4 green to 1/4 orange. Called verizon and they want me to purchase a new one and they will refund it when i sent the old one back..or I can return it to a store. Crap crap crap.

very possibly a bad batch. I have my wife going to a different store to see if that is the issue. Will post an update once attempted... The phone is for her anyway.

My brother and his friend both got theirs from the same store this morning, and both of theirs are having random reboots. He was showing me his and it just rebooted after he closed the browser. Mine is still on the charger so IDk yet if it will have the same problem. Mine was pre-ordered from Verizon.com.

Ok I got mine fully charged and turned on. Programed the cell service fine. Phone rebooted like it should, and then rebooted twice before I could even get threw the initial setup. Get the setup done and it would keep rebooting, after I would close the app message or just sitting there doing nothing. Dialed *228 for roaming to see if that made a change and it did not. Made a call to wife and worked fine, then hung up and recived a call from an unknown number. When I answered it was automated and said Im sorry you are having toubles, please try again, and then phone rebooted. IDK

My Incredible rebooted several times today. After reading all the cases in this thread I have a suspicion that it is related to when the phone is in a very weak signal area. Mine rebooted several times as I drove through back roads in rural NC and then later in the day when I was inside a conference room in the middle of a large building. Both times the signal was very weak.

Can anyone else comment that has been having this issue if you can confirm that your signal was weak while it rebooted?

I am also in NC. I am going to see what happens when I drive home tonight. See if it reboots in the same places it did on the way to work. My money betting that it will.

I am also in NC. Mine and my brothers have both been rebooting all day, lost count after 20 time, and we both work in a metal building, not the same one though. And both of us do not have the best signals but my calls are clear and also the browsers seems to be quick when its not rebooting. Thinking about going to winston salem where 3G is very strong and seeing what happens.

clint1372 indicated the problem was witnessed in the Verizon store. Assuming the Verizon store has a good signal (and I assume they would in order to be able to show off their phones), that may rule out the signal as being an issue.

I am also in NC. Maybe they sent the whole state a bad batch. :(

rasmith18...I am in Winston. Same problem here. I get 1-2 bars in the same location I used to get 4 bars on my blackberry.

I just called the local Verizon store here in Winston Salem , NC and the rep stated they are aware of the issue. It was stated to be software issue and a fix is being worked on. The rep could not tell me how or when it would be applied.

Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be like the Nexus One 3g issue.

Two more reports here from Winston-Salem, NC. One phone rebooted all day while sitting in an office at Wake Forest Univ, the other rebooted 4 times on the way home from downtown. The Verizon store (on University) told my wife that it was a network issue and they were working on it but that the hardware on the phone checked out fine. Sorry that others are having the issue too but I was glad to see that we weren't the only ones. Hope it is fixed soon.

One more from Winston-Salem. Received phone yesterday, charged battery, turned on to activate and rebooted from the start. Activated and set up gmail then started rebooting again. Pulled battery, restarted, and would reboot just sitting on the desk. Called VZW tech support and after another battery pull and 5 more reboots, they're overnighting me a new phone. No apps were loaded, nothing. Not real optimistic after reading all these reports.

Very strange.. I havnt had a single reboot. I've installed tons of apps already and have been playing with the phone non-stop. The moto droid had a lot of these issues in the beginning as well. I returned one moto droid that was working great except for one little stuck pixel.. the second one had massive random reboots.. the third i've had till yesterday.

Random reboots are defective units. All of us moto droid users know all about that issue. I had one myself, took it back to best buy told them it reboots itself, gave me a new one and been happy every since. Just swap it out....

I dont think its completely defective units. Can be from apps that don't work quite well with this phone. seems everytime there is a new phone they have to tweak the apps to make them work right and not FC/Reboot.

I bought mine this morning at the Reynolda store and it was rebooting like crazy when I got home. I took it back to the store on Robinhood because they still had 3 more in stock, so I was going to switch it out. I spent 20 minutes there with no reboots. I installed some apps, etc. No problems. The guy had no idea about this issue. He told me to come back if it started freaking out again. I installed pandora and drove home. About halfway home, the phone rebooted while playing music in the truck. It coincided with signal fading.

When I have it in my basement (weakest signal) it reboots non-stop. On my main floor, it just reboots every few minutes. I toyed with returning it, but this forum has given me hope it may be a correctable software issue.

Trust me, when the droid came out there were tons of people going back to stores swapping them out for new ones the same day due to random reboots. They arent supposed to reboot even with crappy apps as they would just force close. IF yours is rebooting, take it back and get a new one.

I've had mine since Tuesday and it's been working flawlessly. Then this morning while heading off to work I pulled the Incredible out to check the internet since they're doing construction on this canyon road and there was a 10 minutes closure.

My Tmo would get really bad service in this area so I wanted to see how the Verizon's service was in the canyons. Right after I opened Opera and was surfing Androidforums, the phone restarted.

Since it hasn't happened anywhere else after 2 days of very heavy usage (I drained the batter each day) I'm assuming the previous speculation that it has something to do with signal strength might be true. Regardless, this shouldn't be happening at all. My G1 never did this so hopefully there is a patch coming soon once Verizon and HTC is made aware of this issue.
