Help Droid Maxx Bug Reports and Problems

I bet the bad Maxx will be returned for repair and will be repaired if possible and if it is it will be made available as a refurbished unit to someone else.

If it was me and if the Maxx was purchased within the last 10 days I would demand a new replacement. It was purchased more than 10 days ago I would accept the refurbished unit.

I got the 16gb and got a 16gb sd card. I don't think they had a 32gb ....at least they didn't offer a choice. I was in that store for almost 3 hours. I was done arguing.

I think you might be in the wrong forum... which phone do you have? The droid Maxx has no expandable memory...

Not yet but I'm leaning that way. I love the long battery life but it does me no good if the thing doesn't stay on. I was thinking of going to the Razr Maxx HD but Verizon doesn't sell that anymore. Was also considering the Galaxy S4

At 19% my phone shut down completely and would not charge or cut back on. Finally got it to charge and cut on. I took it to Verizon and was offered a refurb?? The phone was 9 days old....I returned the Maxx and switched to a Galaxy S4. I probably just got a "bad" phone on the Maxx but certainly didn't was a refurb after paying full retail price for the phone.

Good call. I'm betting your problematic Maxx will be the "refurb" they pawn of on the next guy who walks through the door.

And there's no shame in owning an S4. Seems like a solid device. Did you get the 32GB model?

He got the Galaxy S4

In the first instance, there are two seperate light-gray lines dividing the dark-gray 4th and 5th signal bar. Also, the light-gray line dividing the 3rd and 4th signal bar seems to be one pixel too thick in width compared to the others.

In this instance, the light-gray line between the 3rd and the 4th signal bar is still a pixel thicker (easy to see in this comparison and unfortunately very prominent when checking the signal).

When I was using the "Ok Google Now" command and sending my wife a text, she was getting it twice.

If you're still getting this bug, I have figured out a work around until it's fixed. Settings > Apps > Google Search > Uninstall Updates. It will ask you if you want to revert to the factory version. Tell it yes. Works perfectly.

I haven't seen anything negative happen from doing this.

What is expected and is usually the case: pressing the recent apps button minimizes the app you are currently in, placing it at the bottom of the list, which is sorted in ascending order of last use.

What occurs occasionally:

1. you may press the recent apps button, and the current app seemingly minimizes to the bottom of the list, but ultimately ends up in the 2nd or 3rd position from the bottom - a bit jarring, and definitely not expected behavior.

2. sometimes an app you were just using a little while back ends up far upstream on the recent apps list and sometimes it just won't be present at all.

I've found a few apps that demonstrate this behavior fairly consistently - would you all be willing to test this out?

Transit App (the green one with the squiggly)

Most times the first two are fine but you could really see the effect with the last one. I've tried the same test on the MotoX and I couldn't reproduce it.

Same observation here. I've also noticed if I back out then select it again, it often (possibly always?) works itself out. But regardless, a bug needing fixing.

A couple of times my screen has been unresponsive -- once when the phone was ringing, and it wouldn't respond to repeated swipes, and the other when it wouldn't respond to my swiping down the new mail in active notifications. The phone is only a week old so i'm wondering whether this will become a bigger issue.

I have some light leakage below and to the left of the back button. Only noticeable in the dark, but I use my phone a lot at night in bed. I'll be returning to the store tomorrow to swap it out.

I thought it would be nice to have a place to list any bugs or problems with the Maxx as they arise.

Use this thread to list any bugs or problems. Sometimes they aren't bugs at all, they are features you're not sure how to use and they come across as bugs, other times they are in fact bugs that should be reported.

I have a spot on my display near the bottom right of the screen that I can see two small dark spots under the glass. I can only see them when the screen is off and only when I tilt it to see the glass in the reflection. They look like a snake bite. I used a dead pixel app and can't see any dead pixels. Just wondering what it is and what caused it. I also may take it into Verizon to have them look at it prior to my 14 days to make sure that it's documented that it is there from the beginning.
I once had a Blackberry that would get pocket lint under the glass. Could it be dust particles?

When I make/receive a call the screen goes blank. Pressing the power button does nothing. So I cannot use the dialer pad for automated prompts and I cannot even hang up at the end of a call.

The first thing I would try is a reboot. Hold down the power and volume up buttons simultaneously for ~10 seconds.

If the problem persists, I would take the device back to VZW.

The reboot fixed it, weird. Hopefully it does not crop up again. Thanks for the (what should have been obvious to me :) ) tip!

Happening again. I've read this can be a problem if the proximity detector is covered up by a screen protector. Which is very likely because I cut my own from a generic protector. Where is the detector located on this phone?

There is a zone to the left of the speaker. You can't see it, but it's about as long as the speaker. Make a phone call them run your finger or a pen near here and it'll be obvious.

I believe you are correct. My screen protector is a VZ one that I had put on in my favourite corporate store, I never get them on without bubbles, has a large notch cutout on top for the speaker and camera lens but also extends to the left of the speaker an equal distance.

The only two major things that I've noticed and have bothered me are this. When using the okay Google now feature to send a text. Sometimes the person gets the text 2 times. Secondly is active notifications. When I am driving it shows on the status bar that I am driving. However sometimes it just shuts itself off even though I have GPS on. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I notched out the area to the left of the speaker and it solved the problem. If you look really closely in the right light, you can see two small circular areas. Not sure which one is the proximity sensor so I just uncovered them both. Works perfect now.

How the hell do they already have returns? Lol

I have noticed with mine that my volume will just "turn off". For instance, I will receive a call/text but it will only vibrate but my ringer is all the way up.

Another volume issue I have noticed is with the speaker phone. One time that I use it, I use it a lot on the Assist driving mode, it will be nice and loud the next time I almost have to put the phone up to my ear (but backwards) to hear it.

Other than that I have only noticed one of the bugs that has been brought up here, 1 of my couple thousand pic messages caused my messaging to crash.
I am moving this phone! I am reliably getting 40 hrs before I put it on charge, and I don't really need to then. I have also had some days where I would have 50% screen on time by the time I get ready for bed (up for 16-18hrs) and I still have some charge left. I LOVED my GNEX but it would have died 3+ times before I could have made it that long.

Yes, that happened to me, once. I had to delete the conversation with that person; it would force close messaging if I tried to open the conversation at all.

I'm on MAXX #2, waiting on #3.

MAXX #1: Earpeice speaker too low, Kevlar creaked on the edges, big gap on the sides. Screen was perfectly clear.

MAXX #2: Solid in every way, louder earpeice, BUT solid images, especially white and gray have a subtle pinstripe effect which appears/fades/reappears. Subtle but very annoying.

The screen and clear phone calls are the primary reasons I'd use a phone like this, so needless to say, I'm disappointed. If number 3 is a dud, I may just give up on the phone completely.
