Help Droid Maxx Bug Reports and Problems

The data roaming happens randomly throughout the day. I never got this with any other phone. I live in a rural area but work in a major city downtown. Happens both at work and sometimes at home. I have forced to the CDMA network and I have enabled data while roaming. Verizon and Motorola don't know what to do.
[QUOTE=vzwuser76;6321712]On the first question, is the background data disabled all the time or only at night. If it's only at night, it may have to do with Moto Assist, which along with battery saver turns off background data during the night (sleep time). In the Assist app you can set the time period you want your phone to go into sleep time.

If background data is off all the time it may have to do with your phone showing as roaming. I believe there is a setting that disables background data when roaming under mobile data settings. That way you don't rack up charges when roaming. The reason it may be roaming (other than an issue with the phone itself) is that if you're in a sketchy signal area, if a tower from another provider has stronger signal it may be going with that tower rather than the lower signal home network tower. Without knowing how long you've lived there, if any newer towers have gone up recently, or if this phone is able to pull a stronger signal from other towers, it's kinda hard to troubleshoot.

On the second question, that happens to me as well. It also happens on the home screen in portrait, & it started after the last update (the one that fixed the camera and other use issues that went out a few weeks ago). Hopefully it'll be fixed on the next update. I assume it has to do with the proximity sensor.

Forcing to CDMA eliminates AT&T & T-Mobile, but Sprint and US Cellular are both CDMA I believe. Might depend on if they have a roaming agreement with Verizon in your area. Otherwise, sounds like its time for a new phone. But don't let them try and make you pay for resolving the issue, this problem is on their end, and if they can't resolve it that would be grounds for terminating your contract (Verizon's contractual responsibility is to provide you with voice and data service, if they can't then they're not upholding their end of the contract). That's all I can think of.

I'm new to AF. Anyone having trouble recognizing if a received text is a group message or not. I have to tap on the message to see if there are any other recipients. It can be a mess to reply to a message and then discover a number of others also got your message. I called VZW. The tech said she is going to contact moto and get back with me tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. I was curious if kit kit solved this since I didn't get the update yet.

The stock messaging app shows the names of all of the recipients and the sender and the number of people involved in the second line at the top header for group messages. If you look at the list of conversations you can see that there is more than one person involved.

Thank you for your response. I see what you are talking about for group messages that I initiate. However, for incoming group texts, I have to tap the message to bring up "message details." Only by looking at "To:" can I see whether or not there are others included in the message.

The VZW tech got back with me today. She said that she contacted Motorola, and they are aware of the issue. Motorola would only hint that the kit kat update MIGHT correct the issue.

I'm thinking Google/Motorola may be looking to increase demand for Hangouts by making the stock messaging weaker. I also believe that no external storage on the maxx increases demand for cloud storage provided by (drum roll please) GOOGLE.
I'm nuts?

That simply is not what I see in messaging on my phone. Almost every group message is one that I received. I rarely initiate them. Do you have the option to turn group messaging into MMS messages turned on in settings? (I have the KitKat update, by the way.)

A curious KitKat difference from the Moto X: recently Google added something called "Auto awesome movies" in the Google+ app for particular phones. It works with KitKat on the Nexus phones and the Moto X, but there is no support for the Droid line on KitKat at the moment. On Christmas Eve I spent some time taking photos and videos, hoping to use this feature, but it doesn't exist (yet?) on the Droids.

I was using my Maxx just now and all of a sudden my 4G and network bars turn into an "!" icon. When I checked my data usage page it said that Google Play Music used 1.2 GB (I usually only use the Music app when I'm on wifi). I'm on the 2 GB plan from Verizon (lost my phone, had to use my upgrade and lost my unlimited) so naturally I freaked out.

When I went to the lock screen at the bottom of the unlock pattern the phone said "Emergency calls only - Invalid card" and any time I'd try to dial it'd say "Unregistered on network."

I power cycled the phone and it seems to be working fine and my data usage looks like it's back to normal, but has anyone else experienced this or is it a known issue with the Maxx?

So my maxx is not lasting as long as I think it should. I'm using it alot more than my razr maxx so that may be part of the problem but look at these screen shots and you can tell me if I'm over imagining this. I can't find a way to upload the pictures straight from my phone to this thread.

I guess I should have updated this, but now (as of about a week ago) the Maxx can create auto-awesome movies on the phone.

So here are my screen shots, does this look normal for battery life on how I'm using my phone or is my battery jacked up?

Notice the last photo? You have an app, or some apps, holding the phone awake. I suspect it's dolphin browser, based on the first photo.

If dolphin is actually doing something in the background that whole time, then your battery life looks expected. In other words, if you are listening to music that whole time, and doing it by streaming from dolphin, your battery life looks right.

Ok so I've had this phone since Sep. 2013 and it has worked great up until about a week ago. I don't know if this is happening to anybody else, but every time I press the power button to get to my lock screen it will display the options for powering off the device. If I lightly move my finger over the button it will lock or unlock my screen.
Now it even restarts every few minutes from the slightest touch. It is a pain to watch my phone restart when I try to use it. I will probably go to the Verizon store soon, but if anybody has a simple solution I would love the help.

It sure sounds like there is something wrong with the power button. I think going for a warranty exchange is the right idea at this point.

The three buttons at the bottom stopped lighting and stopped functioning. I figured it was a hardware problem after I had tried everything except a Factory Data Reset.

Prior to starting the replacement process I did the Factory Data Reset and they were restored to normal.

I think you should be prepared for a hardware replacement and as the last step there you will di a Factory Data Reset before releasing the phone.

That being the case ... there is nothing lost in doing the Factory Data Reset before starting the process of turning it in.

Good luck.

... Thom

Thanks doogald that's probably what I'll end up doing. Hopefully they won't give me any problems at the store and hopefully this doesn't happen if I get a replacement...it is an awesome phone.

That hasn't happened to me.

Have you updated to the new active display app in the play store that came out last week?

I have a droid maxx. I don't see that listed. The only ones that update are assist, camera, and contextual services.

I'm not on 4.4 so that's probably why.

FYI to anyone staying on 4.2.2 don't update your motorola assist. It's not compatible.

Thom, I am going to try doing the Factory Reset since all other options wouldn't be useful yet from what a verizon rep told me today. Thanks for the help!

Ok everyone (and Thom especially) I completed the Factory Reset of my DROID Maxx and I haven't had any issues with it so far. Honestly, it seems to be working a bit better even with all of my apps re-installed. So if anybody else ever has an issue with the phone restarting every few minutes and has a sensitive power button the answer is to backup all of your stuff through Google or Cloud first and then just do a factory reset.
Another note to point out is that this all started happening after I did the latest software update. I don't know if that is an issue for the phone itself so just be cautious if you do the update or have already done it.

UPDATE: It has been a day since I did the factory reset and my phone is still restarting every time I touch it or put it in my pocket or purse (wherever the power button can be easily touched.) The other problem is If I go back to Verizon they told me I would only be able to get a refurbished phone as a replacement and not a brand new phone like they've done in the past. That doesn't make me feel happy at all because what if that phone had the same issue?
