Droid navigation woman has got to go

There is a way to change the voice in Google Navigation, and everything else. Menu > settings > text to speech > Always use my settings should be checked > then change the language. Hope this helps. Still digitized but cool for other languages or a British accent.

I'll look there and go for the Brit I hope to find

Thank for that setting fix!

As I was fixing and testing out the new voice, I noticed crackling and static like a blown speaker kind of sound. I thought I heard this during navigation but I ignored it as a bad voice. However its definitely clear it happens now but its only while speaking. Music and everything sounds fine....how does everyone elses sound?

You know what would be funny? Remove human voices altogether and put in R2-D2's voice. Hey if Luke Skywalker learned to understand that thing, why can't we? :D

Yes! Now you're talkin. When I was a kid, I used to wonder how they learned R2's language. Like if there was a class they had to take in school like droid 101.

I notice this too. Especially after the world "Left", there's a few seconds of hiss and crackle. Tis apparent on all the languages of varying degrees with Germman being the least problematic. I think VZW/GOOG/whoever didn't do a good job with sampling the voices properly.

There's also an option in there to "Install voice data" -- so clearly we can upgrade to new voice sets. C3PO here we come...

Settings > Text to Speech > Language

You can change it to British English but it's not that much nicer to listen to.

Google should just hire Morgan Freeman already!

Funny you should say that. I've been clamoring for a Morgan Freeman navigation voice forever. It would obviously be epic.

Or Samuel L. Jackson. It would keep road trips interesting to hear "Yo, bitch, you turned the wrong way!"

Mork
Space Ghost
Homer Simpson
Kat Williams (now that would be a laugh)
Captain Kirk / Spock / Scotty
...

I like that she pronounces things the way I used to when I first moved here (Chicagoland).... She says Devon, but people out here say deVAWN ... she says Paulina (pauleena), natives say PaulEYEna... and my favorite, she says McClean correctly, while everyone out here says McCLANE. Sometimes I question how they make they're decisions, though. The first time I heard it pronounce Skokie as SkokEYE, I had to chuckle.

Has lots of problems with Indian (native american) street names in my sub-division. Set to British English and slowed down the sample rate. I can almost understand it now on major roads. Better than nothing, but I prever my dedicated nav system as it sounds more natural.

Samuel L. Jackson would be awesome.
Nav: "Turn left."
Me: "What?"
Nav: "Say What again! I dare you, I double dare you... Say what one mo' god damn time"
