Help Droid. Problem connecting bluetooth with my Dell Wireless 365 headset

thimes

Lurker
When I scan for devices it finds the Dell headset but then shows me an error that says I must enter a PIN or PASSCODE. There is no prompt to enter the
PIN just an "Ok" button. How do I fix this.

It gives you an error but doesn't give you the entry to enter the PIN? Have you tried rebooting the phone? Also, check and see if the phone thinks the Dell is already paired with the phone.

Nope. I rebooted and also checked to make sure there was nothing paired to the phone.
There must be a way to enter a PIN or PASSCODE somewhere within my phone but I (and many others) have looked and there isn't. Very odd.

OK, how are you initiating the pairing, from the phone or from the headset? It may need to be initiated in a particular manner...

I know that usually the headsets are made discoverable, and then you search for it and find it on the device that you want to pair to it - but this one may be backward?

Also, are you rooted, and if so, are you running an alternate ROM?

My headset (earpiece) has just an on/off button. I turn it on then use my phone to scan for bluetooth devices. Pretty straight forward. Not sure what you mean by
rooted? Also, there is no alternate ROM that I know of.

Lol - If you don't know rooted, then you don't ahve an alternate ROM.

I know what hte problem is now - you haven't established the link, aka PAIRED the devices.

The on off button puts it into pairing mode in the following manner:

1) Make sure the Dell is off.

2) Long press and hold the on/off button for > (greater than) 2 seconds.

3) Now try to scan for devices - and you'll get the prompt on the phone that it wants to pair, would you like to accept, and then the next prompt will be to enter the PIN - which is usually either 0000 or 1234.

You should grab the instructions for the headset ot verify what I have told you - I have seen some devices with a 5 digit PIN (00000 or 12345) or even a 6 digit pin, and it may be a different keypress (like turn it on, turn it off and then turn it on again really quickly) to put it into pairing mode...
