Help Droid randomly powering down

rjf17

Newbie
Over the past couple of weeks my Droid has shut itself down. Occasionally when I hit the power button, expecting to unlock it, I discover that it's turned itself off. It comes back up and I've got plenty of battery life left. This has happened about once a day for the past several days, but never had this problem before. (I've had it since Nov '09). I have lots of apps, but nothing new installed in the past week - though quite a few updates.

Has anyone seen this recently?

I've seen this crop up in nearly every device forum.

Most remedy the issue by taking a good hard look at how caches have built up in apps and widgets most often used.

Things going on in the background can tax the system to the point of protecting itself by shutting down the device. It's hard to pinpoint because sometimes the culprit is two or more syncing apps working at the same time in the background at the moment the device is awakened, etc. It can go on unnoticed.

I'm always manually going into the application manager and clearing caches and sometimes data on larger apps. I manually sync, can't stand auto sync, and I don't allow Weather, Facebook, etc to update in the background.

Clean things out, take your time; I'll bet that tosses the issue, unless you have a true hardware problem.
