Droid Razr already outdated?

Please don't call me a Galaxy Nexus fanboy.

1. Phones will always be "outdated", something newer and better keeps coming out!

Premise of the OP seems that capacitve buttons would be redundant due to ICS. The answer is no, since ICS uses capacitve buttons if available and then does not show the dispaly nav bar. Both do not show up- it is one or the other, depending if the device has the buttons or not.

Some of the best Android phones are "outdated" EVO, SGSII, Droid,Droid X. It's all about reliability and stability right out of the box. You get that in a phone it will never be outdated.

RAZR will go down as one of the best Android handsets of 2011 because of one simple reason. Reliability ........

Out of the box this phone has been stellar.

I could go on about my experience with Samsung and their crap radio's/hardware in phones but that is just my experience with them in this market. Oddly enough this doesn't mean i hate Samsung at all especially when you consider my entire house is wired with Samsung TV's, surround sound and blue ray players with the wireless blue tooth connect etc. Love them where home entertainment is concerned.

When it comes to ICS both phones are getting it and both phones have similar specs when it comes to hardware with a few pluses and minues to each on various options (such as hdmi out, sd card and non removable battery).

Either way i think too many people are trying to look at smart phones as being a part of the phone market when in fact they are now mini computers.

Will the RAZR become outdated a few months down the road? Of course it will. But then again i could spend 20k on a top of the line home computer and it would also be outdated within 7 days i guarantee you that.

Smartphones are now moving at the same pace as computer hardware. Software is irrelevant at this point. Hard for some to grasp but that's really where the Android market is heading with the amount of phone releases and updates for each version etc.

In this day and age you cannot buy a new smart phone and expect it to be top of the line for 2 years. Hell don't even expect it to be on top for 2 months. Find one you like that suites your needs and go with that.

Sure the Galaxy Nexus may get the ICS updates first, but that doesn't change it's hardware. Nor does it change it's lack of an SD slot or hdmi out. Even the Galaxy Nexus will be outdated within a couple months of it's release because as i said software means nothing at this point. So choose something with the specs you like and go from there. Everything else is irrelevant.

The Galaxy Nexus will do HDMI out with an MHL adaptor, so that point is moot. I personally think both are great phones, it all come down to personal preference. I will be going into the Verizon store when the Nexus comes out - getting the Razr, GNex, and Rezound in my hands for a test run - and walking out with the one I like the most.

You obviously haven't played with a razr. The build quality is absolutely amazing. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but squeeze the phone between your thumb and hand like you were pushing down on something on the screen, REALLY hard, and feel how rigid it is. This thing is a build quality beast. Just as good as the iPhone if not better. I mean, it has kevlar. WINNING! haha

And one more note about the galaxy, and iPhone for that matter. No removable memory doesn't appeal to me at all. What happens if you brick it or drop it in water, or break it to where it won't operate anymore. What happens to anything you've saved in there? Music, irreplaceable pictures, etc... ya your music is prob on your computer anyway, but what about those priceless snaps of your kids, or pics from a football game, or vacation? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they would all be lost wouldn't they? Just my two cents.

Android syncs your photos automatically to Picasa as far as I know. Everything else syncs to the cloud as well. Dropbox, Evernote, Springpad... everything worth having is synced to the cloud and safe and independent of your device. You are using Amazon Cloud Player or Cloud Drive to backup (and even play) your entire music collection I assume?

Yes, I've played with a Razr extensively, I wouldn't buy the phone if I haven't. The build quality is not bad, certainly better than every other Android device I've seen. However, put my iPhone up against it, it still looks a million times more expensive and high quality (mostly because of the plastic the Droid Razr uses around the edge of the device). Still, it's a drawback I'm OK with since it still looks very good overall.

I fully understand where OP is coming from. I've been toying with this for a while now. I've always loved Motorola's hardware and build quality, but at the same time, it's hard to buy a phone that no more than 2 weeks later isn't even being sold with the latest Android version.

On the other hand, the Samsung is being released with 4.0, larger screen, APPARENTLY and iPhone competitive camera(which is a huge selling point for me). Yet, I've never been sold on the potentially poor build quality(I've never owned one because I do not even like the feel in the store).

I think it will be interesting to see how the ICS updates integrate with "old" devices with dedicated buttons.

Seriously? With your user namer, you start two threads in the Razr forum-- a "is it outdated" based on lack of the main difference between this phone and the Gnex, and "do you regret" because the Gnex is so awesome.

You clearly favor the Gnex, and are starting buyer remorse threads in the forum for the phone that is its most direct competition.

Most of us, if not all, who bought the RAZR are not particularly impressed with ICS and don't feel the need to have it right away. IF it were an important factor none of us would have bought the RAZR. We bought the device because it is by far the most unique ( aesthetics) device on the market and a variety of other reasons. We can wait until Q1 for ICS.

4.0 is over rated and over hyped. It will be a great upgrade no doubt but at the end of the day it's nothing we haven't already seen or used. If you used Honeycomb and Gingerbread you've pretty much experienced ICS. I'm excited to get the update don't get me wrong and it will be pretty sweet but I'm in no rush to have it. Been around too long to fall for the hype.

I hope you realize that devices with hard/soft buttons when updated to ICS will not have on screen buttons. I can't believe this is still being perpetuated around the Android community lol

I had one guy try and tell me that ICS won't run all that well on anything other than the Nexus lol. True story. He said it wasn't made for any other processor and since ICS was made for the Nexus at native resolution nothing else will run it right. LOL

I have no problem with people loving a device. I understand that. But the Nexus fans and their "who cares about any other handset I want my nexus" is eerily familiar........

Hi Friends,

We've had public service announcements on this thread, but I don't really see them observed. We've also had this thread complained about, yet again, by a very valued member.

Personally, the nature of this thread makes it confrontational, personal and argumentative. All three phones will be great and it's a matter of taste. Whoever buys any one of them is a winner. No losers.
