droid still lacking multitouch keyboard?

@ahammer: I'd say try it, it's free for a week (or something like that). It's been 100% stable for me, so not sure what issues the comments are reflecting.
seems to be fine.. lots faster then trying to type it out with my big hand on the on screen keyboard.

I'm wondering why - if multitouch is available on the phone, which we know it is - no app developer has implemented it for a keyboard replacement. Dolphin has already incorporated it into their app, and PicSay has had it for a while, so it can't be that difficult to implement.

I'm surprised that BetterKeyboard or some other random dev has not simply made a keyboard replacement that supports multitouch. Can't anyone do this? Where's the guy who did Mototorch LED? I wonder if he would be able to come up with something like this. Even if it's just the default keyboard app with multitouch support, I'd be willing to pay 5-10 bucks for it.

Agreed. A MT keyboard would be amazing... I'm a cheapskate who almost always sticks with free apps, but that being said, I would definitely pay $5-10 for a MT keyboard app (assuming it was stable, worked well, etc).

*EDIT* I downloaded Shape Writer, and wow... I'm impressed. It's sending doubles for me right now, but I'm amazed at how quickly I can "type" with it and how accurate it is.

I'm a major cheapskate when it comes to apps and I'd pay for this in a heartbeat

Agreed. I paid $10 for ShapeWriter and feel like it was worth every penny.

It most certainly does not have multi-touch. Anyone who says it does is either blatantly lying, tested it wrong, or is trusting information that they haven't verified. There is absolutely no multi-touch in the soft keyboard.

Try holding down one key and then holding down another key before the special character box pops up. Then release the first key, then release the second key. Does it type properly? No. Is it multi-touch? Definitely not.

That being said, I don't think they formally slated it for anything, but hopefully they'll fix it in the December update.

The DROID most certainly IS multi-touch ready/capable. The OEM apps are not multitouch but the device itself is capable.

You should probably know what you're talking about before you start spouting off like you do.

@ccerino: shadowdud777 is saying that the keyboard has no multi-touch -- in which the consensus appears to say he is correct (although there are some reports of a very time specific implementation of multi-touch on the keyboard).

Doh, it always sucks when you tell someone not to spout off without reading up first and then it turns out that you are the one who didn't read up, I've done it before and you feel like a douche after. Anyway, I hope someone does make a MT capable keyboard, but it's not a huge thing for me because I almost always use the physical keyboard.

I actually also use the physical keyboard primarily but that's solely because I can't type as fast as I want to with the soft kb. When I really get rolling I either don't lift my fingers off quickly enough or I hit the next key before the letter of the last one is down and it doesn't register them both. Leaving mr sad and tapping the delete button and praying for a mt keyboard lol. Out of curiosity is there any work by 3rd party app devs to create a mt kb app?
