Help Droid switching to 1x without explination

Telstar, are you in an area that was previously alltel? Many of us think/believe it's got to do with the towers not being officially integrated into the verizon network yet.

I'm in a Verizon area (no Alltel anywhere near) and it happens to me as well. I will have a decent signal (-72~) and just switches over to 1X and data is worthless (even on 3G it is slow around 220kbps)

I too am having this problem. For the most part its only happening at work. I will be listening to Pandora or something and it will just drop to 1x. The city that I work in has excellent 3G coverage so I don't get this. The other thing that is weird, is sometimes when it switches and then comes back. It'll say its on a tower from the city next to us! So its like its not using the closes tower. Its really bothering be considering if I take a break at work and would like to use my phone its really slow!

I have had this issue, yes. Its odd cause I will see the phone in 3G with 4 bars, and then when it drops into 1X, it shows virtually no bars at all. BUT, I usually just let the phone be as I have never had this actually disrupt any service or phone call I was making.

No, I dont think so about the alltel question. I have used my Samsung i760 and i730 (along with pdanet) for many years in the same location without the problem, and as mentioned my wife's usb727 verizon pc modem also works fine. Not very fast, and not a great signal, but not near the issues as with the Droid.

It is a very strange issue. The phone will show 3G with 3bars but then when you go to actually use data, it goes terribly slow, bars drop, or it may switch to 1x or may just give a "No network" error. I try again and it connects but is pretty slow. Then on rare occasion, from the same spot with the same bars (not that the bars seem to mean much) it works fine. My wife also has a droid and it acts the same way. Since the old phones worked fine I have to believe it is an issue with the Droid. Hopefully it is fixable in a future update.

Forcing it to "EVDO only" seems to help in one area of my house but in others can lead to "no network". And when in EVDO only there is no phone (cdma) network so you cant get calls. But this is what I do if I need to use it with Pdanet. The 1x is so slow it is pretty much unusable.

Telstar.

Resurrecting an old thread here - I have this problem from time to time. A battery pull/reboot on my Droid nearly always gets me back to 3G, and going in and out of Airplane Mode never kicks 3G back on.

I'm not sure if it's a Droid issue or a tower issue, as I seem to recall occasionally dropping into 1X on my old Palm Treo 700wx (WinMo).

It happens at home, and there could well be terrain issues, but I generally get a -85dBm signal here. The tower is not far away, and I get the same issue when I'm in a nearby area that would presumably be served by the same tower. (I think that's what showed up the last time I used the "Antennas" app.)

Today, I've been 3G all day here at home.

Thoughts?

Since Verizon acknowledged that Droid X users are hogging the bandwidth, you can rest assured this is their way of throttling us.

I highly doubt this is there way of "throttling" us. If they were to do that they would just restrict the total bandwidth we could use on our phones. The phones will always see 3g as that is something physically that phone does. It's just a matter of the through put we have available to us that they can change from their end.
