DROID? Update

Every other phone I have had did not have OTA updates. I had to go into the Verizon store and ask them to update the firmware. If I didn't do it there was no problem for either me or Verizon. I still have XP on all my computers. Microsoft has not gone bankrupt because I haven't upgraded to Vista or Windows 7 and still support XP with security updates. If I choose to not load the updates then Microsoft doesn't make me. I haven't upgraded to the latest BIOS on all of my computers and they still work fine and connect to the internet fine. Sometimes a new one has a bug. Your comment about all the issues that it would cause Google and Verizon is just BS.

BIOS and firmware have nothing at all to do with each other. Microsoft still supports XP, and Vista. Microsoft does NOT support Windows 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, or ME.

Your analogy is completely irrelevant.

If you want an apt analogy, a better one would be satellite TV. I have three HR-20 DirecTV DVR's. Since I purchased the first one, there have been roughly 20 software updates. There is no way anyone can stop them from happening without unplugging your equipment. But of course, as soon as it boots, the upgrade will happen. That way, when you call customer support, they don't even have to ask the question.

Do you think Verizon will talk to you about "issues" you have with you Droid without first checking the firmware release to make sure it is current?

They make sure you have the latest software so you don't waste their time dealing with issues you created for yourself. You have no ability to stop their software updates (unless you hack your phone and void the warranty).

If you think that's BS, fine. I think most IS techs would disagree with you.;)
