Help Droid will not turn on

Try a battery pull.
If that doesn't work, try a Hard Reset.

Hard Reset
1. Power off phone
2. Use hardware keyboard
3. Press and hold the 'X' key and Power button until you see a screen with an exclamation point inside a triangle
4. Press and hold the Volume Up key then press the Camera button (I had to do this twice) to get menu screen (Linux back-end becomes VERY apparent here)
5. Using the D-pad, select one of the Wipe options (specifically Wipe Data/Factory Reset)
6. Confirm your selection and wait for it to complete
7. Reboot the device

This happened to me yesterday, I was very close to taking my Droid back to the Verizon store.

I was able to bring it back to life by removing the battery, then putting it back, then putting it in the wall charger.

Odd combination, I know, but that is what did it for me.

If it happens again I plan to take it back to Verizon, this kind of thing shouldn't happen.
 
I've ran my battery down twice now to the point where it would not turn on again the next time I went to use the phone. Once plugged in it powered right up and charged. It seems like the Droid has a certain threshold where it will consider itself completely dead and not power on until plugged in. I have a hunch this is at lower than 5%. The solution is to charge it before it get's below 10% and then it's not an issue.
 
I had the same issue this morning. Took the battery out and it rebooted fine but this shouldn't happen. Anybody else has had this issue yet?

Thank you for showing me how to get into recovery. I tried flashing a ROM from my G1 but it won't allow it. Boo Hoo.
 
Battery is at 90%.
I put phone down, goes to sleep in 2 minutes, goto turn on and nothing.
I popped battery and its ok now but this scares me.
 
I also had this exact problem. I was told by Verizon tech Support to just go and return the phone and get a replacement. After I hung up, I reseated the battery and this allowed the device to turn back on. I hesitated to mess with the battery because I find the cover very hard to get off and fully latched back on and some people may have broken theirs... reports that the cover keeps coming off for them. I was careful not to accidentally break a hinge or something and it seems fine.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Should we return the Droid for replacements regardless?

I recently had this problem too after owning the phone for 4 days. Upon pressing the power/sleep button, the other buttons illuminated but the screen itself didn't turn on. Removing and reinserting the battery seems to have solved the problem upon reboot.

I don't think this is a battery issue because my phone was charged >70% and pressing the back and menu buttons elicited the typical vibration response.
 
I've had my Droid since release day, and the same thing happened to me twice today (both within 30 mins). As with the rest, a battery pull brought it back up. If it happens again, I'm going to replace it.
 
Mine has been doing it the second day I had it. I didn't realize I was buying a Blackberry that required a battery pull every few days.
 
After 5 days of not turning on, not turning off, buzzing on vibrate for 2 min for no reason - I brought it back - no problems - no questions - just a new phone that works great!
 
I had that happen last night. No matter what I did couldnt get it to turn on. Did a battery pull started up. Hope they will do a silent fix for this to!
 
Had the same problem after having the Droid for a few days. Brought it to the Verizon store and they reseated the battery and it rebooted, but they weren't too happy with that as a fix and just gave me a replacement phone. New phone just did it again. I reseated battery and all is fine for now. Curious if others who have had this issue have their phones in a case. I'm using a Body Glove. I did read a post where someone said their battery felt hot when they reseated (though I didn't notice it with mine).
 
I took mine to Verizon and they told me the screen stuck asleep and occasionally loosing external sound (no phone ring or music) were not known issues with the phone and maybe a software update would fix them for me. No new phone for me.

If you or anyone else has had these issues, or any other issue, please contact Verizon so they know about it. It might be the only way we get a fix besides pulling the battery.
 
I turned my phone off last night with about 50% charge; it wouldn't boot this morning! I tried ginigma's suggestion, without any results.

I tried the following solution and it worked fine. Apparently, the battery had lower then 5% charge.... Plugging it into the computer did nothing, but the wall charger was able to bring the phone to life. Thanks for the help guys!

Woke this morning, unplugged my phone from the wall charger and my phone would not come on. Removed the Body Glove cover, reset the battery and the phone responded nicely. I have had the phone for 2 weeks, 1st battery reset.
 
Me too! Twice now, battery at about 75% first time, close to 100%.

First time I had been on a call, termed the call and set it down. Picked it up after twenty or so minutes and nothing. Holding the power button or any other combination of buttons I could think of didn't help.

An old laptop I had benefited from removing the battery during occasional freeze ups so I tried that and got it going again, but after powering up the phone thought it was yesterday afternoon. Many texts waiting to be read again that had already been cleared.

Second time was this morning. After spending the night in the oem charger, carryied it around, checked mail and texts, set it down for about half an hour. Came back and----darkness. Only removing and reseating the battery got it on again.

[heavy sigh]

I'm going to look into replacement process today. Can I just walk into a VZW store and expect them to exchange it with no stalling?
 
This has happened to me twice in the last 24 hours.
I don't believe it is a faulty device, I believe it is the nature of the beast, but perhaps an update will take care of the related issues (perhaps not enough power available for the screen)? They could force the display to be very dim in these cases and display a warning at least...
I had to take the battery out to get the screen to display again. Although I have a shell, the battery was not hot at all. I don't believe there is any overheating going on. The battery was very low, but I could see activity with the flashing green light. Although I'm hoping to get an extended battery when they are available, it seems like there is a problem... also the battery seemed to drain much faster after reaching 30% available. Plugging the device in did not help until I pulled and re-seated the battery.
 
I had this same problem today. Made my second phone call on this device (had it three days) and when the call was over I had no way to hang it up - the screen had blanked out and no matter what I did I could not revive it. The BACK/MENU/HOME/SEARCH buttons illuminated from time to time but nothing got the screen to come back. I had to remove the battery and restart it.

I assumed it was an issue with the power save on an inactive screen so I set the screen to NEVER go off. I made a quick test call and it worked okay but I found it extremely frustrating. My phone was ordered online, can I get it replaced if needed at a store?
