Help Droid won't power on

This is a first generation motorola droid. I can't seem to get my droid to power on. It was plugged in, and picked it up to check the time and I noticed it wasn't on, and it was quite warm. I pressed the power button and go the little M screen and hung there. then it died completely. I have so far tried removing and putting the battery back in, and have plugged it into both the computer cable, and the wall charger. In both cases the little white light comes on next to the plug slot, but it still will not power up.

Ideas anyone? really can't afford a new phone at the moment.

update: Left it plugged into wall charger for a time, and it came back! well Kind of.. it got to the little droid eye screen, the red low battery light on the outside case came on and it went dead. tried again, got a black screen that read something to the effect of "low battery, can not program" however it's been plugged in over night?

could this just be a bad battery?

It could be a bad battery.

Try removing the battery from the phone for several minutes (I recommend 10) then putting the battery back in (do not try to turn it on) and then plugging in the charger and letting it charge for a bout an hour.
