Droid X and verizon says TASK KILLERS

No freezing. Occasional lag, but nothing major. Poor battery life, for sure. No ATK installed. Charged to 100%. Phone off all night. Turn it on at 6AM. Check emails for 5 minutes, down to 90%. Pulled an app from the market, and surfed for maybe 5 more minutes, changed the clock/weather widget, brightness at the minimum, data sync every 4 hours...30 minutes later, 80%. Now, I have to say, it's held at 80% for about 2 hours, so we will see. But really, why have a smartphone (and/or install ATK) if I have to walk on eggshells to take advantage of its potential? I don't want to charge it every second. My opinion, dud battery. I'll go the weekend and see if it improves. If not, Monday at the store will be fun!

sorry fo the newbie question but what exactly does that do?

I'm sure someone will correct me with a more advanced answer but simply put, backing out closes out of the app and hitting home leaves it running. You want to back out. Or choose exit from the menu in the app if its an option

I have my droid x since launch. Please spare me the fanboy crap and the old your using the phone routine that crapple seems to be doing these days. I use my phone from morning to 8 pm battery needs a charge done dead cant get to the bar with a dead phone!

compare this to my iphone 3gs the battery life on the iphone beats out my driod x. Having all these hipster apple fan hags tell me the same thing-booooo.

My beef is that ironically this is why crapple restricts the
app store. Too many apps are not designed with the precise use of the processors which will kill the battery. I am sure android will be perfect for multicore chips that will be released soon. Until then I am stuck with this phone.

Last, maybe this explains why verizon has a better network than att....if your battery last than you too would hog up the network like the crapple gang and the hate t and t network.
;)

I know multiple people with 3gs and they have awful battery life. My battery on my x lasts easily a day with heavy use and also with the X data usage has went up 5X as much as other smart phones so try and blame it on the network nice try though because on verizon you dont have to worry about not being able to make a call or dropping a call

If you mess around all day long on the web or doing anything that keeps the screen and radios on for long periods time then it's going to kill the battery. You're going to need to get a bigger battery or get used to charging them. If you use it like a phone and your not surfing on it all day long it can easily last the day.

Get a couple of nice docks for the phone, one for car, one for desk home or office and you can us the device as much as you want and you won't even realize your charging it the same time.

I've had both the 3GS and now own the Droid X. Droid X sh!ts all over the 3GS in the battery department.

Networks do not make the apps...the fact is to many hand bags can't program correctly for the crop of phones out there. vzw is only good because she does not carry the iphone. My feeling is the responses are typical fan hag shit. The fact is apps should work well without having to kill my battery and the poser bedroom programmer should understand the art of using a processor. I will bet that flash 10.1 will suck my battery more than any crapple or brandroid fanatic could do in one day....

Yes good solution however the moto car cradle sucks need to take case out. Even with the plastic piece removed the holster case that is also moto from vzw not compatible.

Thanks though...

I've been getting ~48 hours without ATK, I remain convinced that it is a placebo affect and the REALLY important thing is to optimize your phone and know how to use it correctly.

Smartphones always hog more battery than a normal phone. What you really need to do is optimize your phone to work for you. Turn off things you are not using cause android is always hitting the internet.

A task killer can help but it is not a panacea. I know ofthedamned would be pissing all over my facebook wall if she had that info (she can PM me for it) but they do help. They do NOT fix all. Any Unix sys admin will tell you the ability to kill errant processes is a critical function. The task killer does that (if you have root you can drop to the terminal and do the same thing with the kill command) but many people don't understand how task killers work. They are a quick and dirty method to free up memory, that is all. They do not do anything beyond that. So when everyone recommends that you need one, not necessarily.

The droid x ships with a better battery than the eris and incredible (both have a 1300 mah while the droid x has a 1540 mah) so you should get more.

Really, go in and optimize your phone. If you don't know what settings to adjust, ask. I pound the crap out of my phones and I get great battery life on the Droid X.

Of course if you're looking for great battery life and simplicity, there is always the knack ;)

Which settings do you recommend to be optimized? got my X 2 days ago and just wanting to maximize its potential output

You can start by optimizing the on board power profiles. There are three main profiles in the settings under "battery profiles." You can then custom tweak these for peak time, or your preferred method of choice for pulling data. Obviously 3G would be better for people on the road who need email and update, while wifi would be better at home.

You'll just have to play around with the settings and find out what gives you the best battery life. Reason I say this is because the jury's still out for me on whether or not it's worth it to leave Wifi on solely to pull data in the background with third party apps, or to leave the radio off all together.

Also, I am in the process of investigating just how many apps I have updating in the background. For example; there is the native facebook app, and also your contacts and universal inbox which have the potential to sync Facebook information. For me, I only need to go to the touch.facebook site because it is less bandwidth intensive and has more options than any app or widget.

So in conclusion, I am going to turn on the profile for the best battery life, turn automatic syncing to no less than an hour inside the settings, and set to manual screen brightness. Also GPS will be off at all times while I am testing.

Everyone should also keep in mind that Android 2.2 Froyo will make such a noticeable difference in battery life that all these issues should be moot.

I do agree though, unless there were a phone invented that required no battery what so ever, there will always be those that are unhappy with battery performance in a smartphone.
