Accessories Droid X Car mount question

Android Enthusiast
I just got the car mount for my car. First of all, I used tasker to help with a few things. I got it so when it's docked, it turns on bluetooth and gps, things like that.

However, while it's docked, if I press voice search on the Car Dock app, it comes up and then closes right away, so it won't let me do a voice search.

Any ideas?

One of your optional programs is conflicting with the program. I had pandora conflict with the video camera, had to force close it everytime I wanted to take a video.

Car Home seems to work better than the stock Car Dock, IMHO. It is free and available in the android market.

Nah, I don't like that one. It's nice until I try to go into the dialer and everything is the wrong way. I like how the car dock app rotates everything.

Unless I was missing something in car home. Someone would call and their picture and number would be in portrait mode and I couldn't see it easily.

I fixed my other problems. Car Dock is perfect for me, I just wish you could pick what apps are in it. I have no need for the music one. I'd rather replace that with something else like Yelp or something.

I just started using the Car Home (beta) app by TheSpinningHead (there's also a Car Home by Google) and I love it. Much better than stock, 18 customizable buttons on 3 screens, and also provides location, speed, compass and weather. Settings that automatically do things like turn on bluetooth, etc. Nice, colorful UI too. Haven't had any issues with proper screen orientation with it either, works for both landscape or portrait.

That is the app I was talking about, it works awesome. You can set your own shortcuts, and as you said it has automatic bluetooth settings, etc... Seems much better than the Google app. I have not had any issues, I use it in landscape mode, and have not tried portrait mode.

I've never actually tried the Google Car Home app. I found the Car Home (beta) and recommended it in an earlier post and didn't realize there were two with the same Car Home name. So not sure which one Gripweed might have tried, but if it wasn't the (beta) one, you might want to check it out.

I had tried the Car Home (spinninghead) but didn't like it.

Now I'm using Custom Car Home by BigFwoosh and I'm liking it so far. You can set all the shortcuts and stuff, so I got maps, nav, phone, pandora, and poynt. Working good so far.

Can you have Car Home (either the one by Spinninghead or BifFwoosh) turn on automatically when docked in the car dock? I also have tasker that I could use, as well, but would rather just use the app to do it.

Yes, Car Home Beta (Spinninghead) does boot up automatically as long as you use a car dock with a magnet, same as the stock car dock app. If you load the app and put it in the dock, it asks you which app you want to use as your default car dock app. You make your choice and then it just boots automatically after that.
