Help Droid X Exchange E-mail Performance?

Anyone using Exchange e-mail on your DX? If yes, I'd like to hear your comments, pros and cons as this will be one of my main requirements. Thanks!
 
I don't have gmail syncs enabled. Only exchange setup. And it woks pretty much as expected. All folders sync. I don't nest folders so i don't know if that works. Calendar is fine. Contacts good. Just like active sync on wm phones. It is pretty quick as well. Push is within a minute if not seconds for email.
 
I sync with Exchange but I never even tried the builtin client. I bought Touchdown a few minutes after I got my DX. At $20 It's a bit pricey, but a must-have if you sync with you corp exchange server IMO.

I stayed away from touch down due to issues i've read on the blogs . The native exchange client is very functional.
 
The main thing that pisses me off with the built in exchange sync is you can't forward an attachment without downloading the attachment first. This is idiotic, especially for someone like me who often gets 10 meg attachments, and is asked to forward them on.

So in that case, it's nowhere near as good as activesync on windows mobile phones.

I've also noticed pushing to the phone is hit or miss, not everything gives me a notification. Never had that issue on winmo either.
 
Mine is very poor. The calendar function is fine. Everything sync's in both directions. My contacts would only sync up to the letter E and then stops. The email sync was random and din't work most of the time. On setup it would download my existing emails but then wouldn't push new emails most of the time. It sounds like anyone syncing to an exchange server that doesn't have a secure connection or installed certificate is having serious issues. This is my case. Hopefully this issue is fixed in the new OS update. For now I use Touchdown which works very well.
 
interesting responses. i have had no issues. perhaps the client is very fickle with the exact exchange environment. I am on exchange 2007 with security enabled and certificates unchecked. It works if i check it as well. I just happened to check it off and left it. (basically the latest patched have been installed by my IT admin for our email systems.)

I get every email very fast with the notification every time. exactly as advertised.

I do not use any google syncs as I stated before so maybe the Gmail stuff messes up exchange? pure speculation on my part...
 
I'm using the built in app, and my only real complaint is that you cannot lookup against GAL within the email client, only through a seperate app. Even then, I haven't found a way to add multiple addresses to an email. Apparently this will be fixed with 2.2.

Downloads are random - some appear instantly, others don't appear until I open the email app. Apparently this will be fixed with the 2.1...604 release.

You can:

Add signatures
Accept/decline meeting invites with responses
Search GAL (from Corporate Directory App)
Sync email subfolders
Sync contacts

You cannot:
Edit calendar entries made in Outlook
Search CAL from within email app (slated for 2.2)
Sync multiple calendars (slated for 2.2?)

All in all, from an Exchange perspective - better than other droids, but it is no BB (or even iphone :eek:).
 
The only strange thing Ive found is that if you try to enter an event the same day...and mark it an all day event, it wont show up in the calendar widget. If you actually go into your calendar on the phone it shows up as well as on the pc..
 
Thanks for all the feedback. I have Exchange 2003 with SSL and I hope it works well. Had no trouble with my HTC Eris and my Incredible seemed hit or miss about a week or so ago (wasn't pushing mail - had to sync manually) and seems fine now. Probably more to do with the server(s) than the phone........................ I hope.
 
My school uses Exchange 2003 and my Droid X NEVER NOTIFIES ME THAT ITS RECEIVED AN EMAIL. It doesn't matter what settings I change on the phone (and yes everything is check for vibrate and sound notifications for the app) it won't notify me that I"ve received an email. So I am back to using Dataviz Roadsync. I really like the UI of the native client but there is no sense for my email to be pushed to me and not notify me.
 
I have been using touchdown for awhile and I have not had any problems, heads and shoulders above the native exchange client.
 
Quick question about Touchdown. Does it work similar to Microsoft Activesync? Or even better?. on my old phone, while useing active sync, i was sync'ing using the exchange server for Mail, Calender, and contacts. I was also able to connect my phone to my home laptop to sync Calendar and contacts. Pretty much my phone was the middle man between work (exchange server) and home. Will I be able to do that with Touchdown?

My emails are instantaneous sending or receiving.

Calendar - on initial sync I only got future events and events back two months. Anything older... no way of retrieving them. Sucks... I use my calendar to look at my history, my past events have notes I need for future work. Help?

Contacts - inserting a new contact is quick either way.

Updating an existing Contact or Calendar entry is hit or miss. Calendar updates eventually go to and from the Droid. Updating a Contact on either my work PC or the Droid never updates.

Is 2.1 my answer?
 
On my Exchange 2007 server the DX works flawlessly (so far). However I would like to sync tasks/notes. I loaded touchdown which appears to be great (you can demo it for free for 30 days) however I think it is overkill for me. Even though it does some extra features like searching email not synced (older than the sync settings) as well as others I really don't want another list of contacts and inbox. So I may look is there is an app that just does those 2.
One way I tested notifications is every time I got notified from Touchdown I got notified from the native Exchange (annoying but necessary for testing) so it definitely must be an Exchange config thing with some of these problems (and of course Moto's lack of testing)
 
Installed Touchdown b/c I was not fond of the native calendar (black/grey). I have not experienced any issues with TD before or after yesterday's Android OS upgrade.

Funny thing is, I run Outlook 2010 on my laptop and there have been many occasions where my phone buzzes a second or two before the e-mail shows in Outlook. Makes me happy that they are staying in sync... and is near real time. I came from a BB Storm using BIS... and before that I used a Windows Mobile phone... so it's good to be back with live connections to Exchange!!!
 
Well I figured out my issue with the event sync. I was running launcher pro so I uninstalled it and everything syncs perfectly now. Not sure why Launcher Pro would cause any problems but it did.
 
Hi all, my IT dept tested the Driod X with ActiveSync remote wipe function and it did not work properly. They've decided not to support it for security reasons. This is very disappointing news for me as I am thinking about buying the Driod 2 next month. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The Touchdown app supports remote wipe.

I am using touchdown and through my OWA options I can remote wipe my droid X.
 
Question on the touchdown app. Tried it for a few days and loved it, the only issue i am having is i cannot figure out how to setup so that when you launch the app it asks for a pin. I asked touchdown and they told me its controlled by my IT team (which is my boss and I) i replied saying thanks for nothing pretty much. We have it set on our lotus 8.5.1 that it says in our security settings simple passwords and simple pin, but when we open up the app all it says is simple password.


Looked on the lotus forums but if any of you have used there forums you can relate to my pain on trying to find something on there.:confused::confused:

Sorry I can be of much assistance to you on that one.

One tip I can you is to check exclude attachments from galley or else you end up with allot of company logos in your gallery list.

I am not getting notifications either. I get them for the calendar, but not email. Anyone else have this issue?
 
hey guys. i can't seem to get my exchange email to set up on this thing. a few weeks ago i was able to get my work email going right away on the incredible. looking around trying to find what it could be i was asked what data package i had from verizon, personal or corporate. i know i had the 30 dollar package with the incredible. which package do you guys have?


***** forget my ish, should of done more research before i posted. issues with 2003 exchange
