droid x just showing bootloader

OK so i am new to droids and i got a droid bionic and i am learning a lot so a friend of mine comes to me and says "help my droid is not working!" she showed it to me and all i see is a screen that says:
bootloader
30.04

battery ok
ok to program
connect usb
data cable

i am not sure what to do but i tried to do the factory wipe and reset, it did nothing for me. Now i want to know how can i download ginger bread and install it back on her phone. It seems to me like she lost her OS. I asked her what did she do last and she told me "i did an update that the phone said i had available, i let it do the update and it showed up like this" not sure how true that is but i would like to fix it for her and learn about the droid OS.

hmmm we might need a little more info bud.

When she brought it to you and it was stuck in bootloader mode what did you do?

Did you pull the battery and no matter what it booted back into bootloader mode?

Also do you know if her droidX was rooted?

that is correct no matter what i do it will not go passed that screen. I even tried the factory hard reset and still back to that screen. as far as i know its not rooted. that was one of the first things i asked her. She didnt even know what that meant.

i'm trying to figure out how you tried a factory reset if all it would do is boot into the bootloader?...not the factory recovery.

have you tried booting into the factory recovery?

Same thing happened to my gf's phone. I had a spare X laying around and switched to that one then I fixed her's. They wanted her to buy a new phone but opt'ed out of doing that.
