droid x key lights?

hey i just bought a droid x and the bottom lights are not working.. i have another droid with a cracked screen that i want to replace the lights.. is this possible or is the light built into like the motherboard if thats what it is etc.. i dont want to pull it apart for no reason?

I'm assuming it's a used Droid X.

When Gingerbread first came out the backlight buttons were TOO BRIGHT. I used an app called AdjBrightness to turn off the backlights. You might try toggling the setting on and off the see if the previous owner had disabled the lights via software. The app requires root. There may be non root apps out there, this is the only one I've used.

If that doesn't work, I'd try a factory reset before cracking open the phone. If you do end up opening the DX, there is a partial teardown at FixIt.

Those lights are an enigma. Sometimes they work, sometimes not so much. I basically don't need them I've gotten so used to the phone.
