Droid X or wait?

Inous

Newbie
I've been drooling over this Droid X for weeks now, and I'm here to get an opinion...

How far off do you think we are from seeing a 4G Android handset? Think I should pick up a DX as soon as I get home in September or wait it out till say December and get a bad ass 4G phone? I'm currently in love with this DX and can't wait to get my mittens on that device!

If you wait for the next big thing, you will just turn into one of those old people who still use a vcr waiting for the right time to upgrade.

So true, go to a Verizon store and check it out. I'm extremely impressed with it, coming from ATT iphone 3gs and i tried the Captivate for two weeks. BTW this is my 7th cell phone and first Motorola.

Even if you do wait for a 4g phone, its gonna take years for the 4g service to be available for use in and around the United States

get the x it's an amazing phone..it's absolutely fantastic point blank period..the people at verizon said they wouldn't have a bad ass 4g phone until dec 2011..so get the x and be thrilled about one of the most technological advanced phones out there (: i love the x and i couldn't be happier id like other people to feel the same when they get the x ha it'll seriously change you (: have a nice day

As a computer and technology enthusiast I can tell you that its very difficult to keep up with the latest....unless you are loaded with $$$$$$.
If the Droid X has what your looking for then get it. If not then wait it out.

within a year easy if you live in a major market. no question about that.

as others have said, another super tech device is always on the horizon. one that makes the previous one look like junk. look at the dx compared to the original droid or the nexus one and those things arent even a year old.

the solution to getting left behind? get a 1 yr contract. at this point the droid 2 leaked specs seem rather lame, and theres some mythological droid pro coming out but seeing as there is virtually no info on it its going to be a few months at the least. so if you chose not to get the dx youre going to be waiting for at at months (3,4,5???) for something to come along at really beat the pants off of the dx.

anyways, the next big leaps will be 4g, obviously, high rez 4.3 inc screens (think iphone4 rez on 4.3inches and if you think the whole retina display was hype, you havent seen how sharp the iphone4 screen is or how much sharper the droid x could be), >1.5 ghz, and HOPEFULLY dedicated GPUs of sorts. Of course there will be incremental camera updates, with improved hd recording, but the aforementioned items will be the biggest advances.

I don't see the 4G network being a factor until this time next year. Just get a 1 year contract and enjoy the DX. This phone is more than capable of doing anything you want short of a front face camera.

Just curious why?

I'm able to upgrade every year on a 2 year contract, with 2 year contract pricing. I was told that twice today by a phone CSR and in store rep.

Edit: I'm on a family share, that's why I get yearly upgrades.

Just get it. Enjoy and be happy with it for 20 or so months, then upgrade to the current latest and greatest. With the way google is putting out new updates, I'm sure when 3.0 rolls around, it'll be like a brand new phone.

Wow ok cool! Thank everybody for the awesome comments, I might just have to get it as soon as I get home in September! I've never noticed the yearly upgrade for my 2 year contracts. I'm also on a family plan ( me and the Wife.)

Is 4G really that important? Sure you get larger bandwidth but you're still limited by the loading speed of the browser. Single core phones are probably staying at 1 GHz. Unless dual core phones are released, don't expect much speed increases by the holidays. Also, most apps are data optimized so 3G provides more than enough bandwidth.

Don't delay. Go get the Droid X. If you keep waiting then there always a better phone coming out.

There is supposedly a dual core 2 ghz processor phone possibly the Droid Pro that's due out by the end of this year or the beginning of next year but it probably won't be a 4G phone.

Weird I was on a family plan with a corporate discount and had to wait the 18 months to see the NE2 pricing.

Just get the X, as the 4G will only be rolled out to 30? cities and if you don't live in that area it's pointless. Plus give them time to work out all the bugs in the 30 cities before they expand into other markets.

You are probably referring to what Moto CEO Jha said.
He did say that but It is HIGHLY unlikely that 2GHz phone will be released this year. Go to either Qualcomm or TI website, you will not see any. TI "announced" a dual core chip but it was simply announced.

i was elgible for upgrade on august 1st so i just got a 1 year contract. the guy tried talking me into a 2 year but getting 1 year was the whole reason i didnt just get the phone on release day.

So I should just buy a droid x now??? Or should I wait for the Fascinate, droid pro, and others that are coming out this year to verizon???

wait.. wait forever. when the pro comes out, you'll be asking the same question.. should i get the pro or wait til the next phone comes out?
