Droid X portability?

So here is my concern...

I've initially been back and forth on my Droid X opinion. I hear how great of a phone it is, and read about how fast and powerful it is, but one thing makes me nervous. The thing is huge. I know it isn't like Evo huge, but its big.

I've always been a slide my cell in my jeans pocket kinda guy, and while my next phone will be my first smartphone, I'd still like to be that kinda guy. Now I know many people have said, and probably will respond to this message saying it again, that the Droid X fits in their pockets, but how comfortably does it fit? I can't imagine sliding the Droid X in my pocket would fit well. I mean, I know its thin, but the thing is wide, and that is my concern.

Honestly dude, i think it depends on the type of jeans you wear. When i carried the X, it fit in my dress slacks very comfortably. It also fit in my cargo shorts with no problem. But, when i wore jeans (no, i dont wear tight skinny jeans), it just wasnt as comfy. It was hard to slide through the pocket, and to pull it out i had to really tug. I know that sounds minor, but im just answering the best way i can. I personally wouldnt let that affect my decision to much, but if all you ever wear is jeans (especially if they are fairly snug), you need to be prepared.

Hey, it wouldnt hurt to ask a rep at the store to put a dummy in your pocket. Just so you can get a feel of it for a minute or two.

How do people typically carry it if they wear jeans? The job I currently have allows you to wear jeans a nice portion of the time, and while I don't wear skinny jeans either, I'm thinking a Droid X in my pocket would be snug.

I guess it depends on how big or small you are and if your wearing tight or comfortable pants and probably depends on the type of pants. I'm fat, wear loose jeans most of the time, the phone even with a case fits in my pockets easily, I feel safer with it in my front pocket rather than back but that's just because I'm afraid I'll sit on it. Slacks are even easier for concealed carry. Without a case it's less noticeable than other regular sized phones I've had. It is petty thin, that seems to be better than small but thick. Not recommended for shirt pocket through, it's somewhat heavy.

Haha this made me laugh.

Anyways to my rant...

I swear people act like the phone is 10" long....its 4.3" and thin...unless you wear your pants like a teenage girl you shouldn't have a problem. I have never kept a phone in my shirt pocket as its annoying as hell with any phone I have had.

It'll be snug just simply because of the size. No way around that.

When i wear jeans and carried it, i would slide the phone in screen facing my leg with the camera on top. That seemed to be the most comfortable.

Laugh if you want. You'll be surprised at what people will do before buying a phone. And given the importance of this issue to the OP, i think its a good idea for him to do.

I've had no problem with mine. Had it in my pocket all day at cedar point yesterday. Didn't cause any problems on any rides. I do wear skinny jeans also....

Going to the Verizon store and handling a DX dummy phone is exactly what I did. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it fit in my jeans pocket.

If you don't put a case on it it should fit better than most phones, its thin and pockets are usually deep unless you wear women's jeans. With my body glove case mine fits fine, about the same as my blackberry without a case. I don't wear tight jeans but without a case should be fine even in tight jeans.

i had a case and holester combo for mine. gave that to my wife and now i just throw this in my pocket. It fits fine i think. No issues at all. You will find it to be fine i bet.

I was worried about this when switching from the Inc to the DX.

Honestly, it's been a complete non-issue. The DX is definitely not too big, either for putting it in a jeans pocket or from handling/using.

I just do not understand why people carry these things in their pockets.
it basically is like walking with it in front of u. if god forbid u get smashed into something, or bump something...there goes your screen!
i`ve always been a shell/holster kind of guy.

I have had no problem with my phone in slacks or jeans. Sitting around with my phone in my jean pockets is not that comfortable, however most of the time that I am sitting I will not have it in a pocket. Because the phone is so thin it fits with no problems in all my pockets. I did have a rubber case on it and ended up taking it off because in jeans it does make it a little more bulky. IMHO this phone is the perfect size, I would not really want one bigger, and could not go to a smaller one now.

I think a lot of people don't realize how big their pockets really are.:D The phone easily fits in your pocket. In fact my pockets are too big and the phone can fall over sideways. When it's sideways like that it is very noticeable to me but when it's upright I don't even notice it. so I'm looking for jeans with smaller pockets or a nice case I can wear on my belt.
(who knows a good shell belt case?)

As for it "not being EVO big" it is exactly EVO big. I have several friends with evo's and side by side you can hardly tell the difference. The evo is slightly wider but otherwise its the same.

It's not even close to being snug in my jeans. But then again there are about 1000 different styles of jeans so your mileage may vary.

One thing I would warn about though is if you have a soft rubber type case on it and you put it in a pocket with cash in it you may lose some $$. Those cases will grab your cash and drag it out of the pocket with the phone and deliver it to the floor if your not paying attention. I lost more than a few bucks before I figured out what was going on. :(

Yeah but what if a truck hits you from behind? I guess it's so big it might save you :D BTW I place it my pocket screen towards leg so the screen is safe.

It is Evo huge. Its taller than the EVO. But its more narrow than the Evo and thinner. Unless you are 5 foot tall and where girl jeans or EMO jeans, you will never notice the X in your pocket

I do this too. Not only to protect the screen, but also so I can hear the ringer.

FYI, I have a small frame, so I tend to wear clothes that fit. Not tight by any means, but they fit - i.e. no "relaxed fit" or "loose fit" jeans for me, just standard bootcut.

I also carry my phones in my pocket, since I don't like holsters.

The DX fits decidedly less well than my iPhone 3GS did, due primarily to it being square shaped rather than having the rounded sides that the 3GS had. That said, I carry it in my pocket every day with no problems. Khakis are a little easier because the fabric and pockets tend to be looser and easier to slide things in and out of.

Interestingly, though it doesn't fit in my pocket as well, it's easier to pull out of my pocket than the 3GS was because of the soft-touch plastic and the much maligned camera "hump." The hump provides a convenient place to grab the phone with two fingers.

I never have problems with the size of it not fitting in my pockets, for any of my clothes.

I have no problem keeping it in my pocket, slacks or jeans. I actually put my wallet in the same pocket so the DX is between the wallet and my leg. It's tight but not uncomfortable. Screen faces my leg so the screen is always wiped super clean when I take it out.

You are less likely to bang you(your quads) into something than you are to bang something 2-3 inches to the side of you(phone in a holster). IMHO. Plus, if you put the screen toward you there is little possibility of a problem.
Plus I just hate that "look, I have a cell phone" look.
But. To each his own.

As far as shell recommendations, I use this one and am very happy with it. I wear slacks or cargo shorts all the time so I wear mine inside my pocket with the clip on the outside. The clip rotates so it can be worn vertical or horizontal. I also liked this one but decided to get the 2 piece one. I am very happy with it.
