Help Droid X Replacement LCD Issues

Hello everyone,

I cracked my beloved Droid X's screen about 6 months ago, and finally decided to do something about it. I ordered a new LCD screen from eBay to install myself. I've taken plenty of electronics apart pretty easily before, and thought this would be no exception. Boy was I wrong!

While dissembling my Droid X, I made the following mistakes:

• Slight tear to a ribbon connector
• Disconnected antenna near camera
• Stripped T3 screws
• Removed all rubbery adhesive on all connectors

As for stripping screws, it just so happened to be the LAST 2 screws from completely dissembling the phone completely [lol]. Although I know there are tools to deal with stripped screws, but at this point am I screwed [accidentalpunslol]? I didn't think the rubbery adhesive was a necessary component for the connectors, but it may be more that just a place holder.

As for slightly tearing one of the ribbon connectors, the tear is about half-way across the ribbon. Would this tear render the connection completely and utterly useless?

The disconnected antenna near the camera is no big deal, it's only a wire with frayed wires on the end. If I recall correctly, the frayed wires are each wrapped around independent rods. In my opinion, this is the 21st century and there are much better way to connect devices than that.

Anywho, what are your thoughts about the possibility of recovering my phone from this? If all else fails, I am due for an upgrade now. In which case I would go for that sweet, delicious Galaxy Nexus. However, I would like to avoid upgrading if unnecessary.

i am in the same situation as you with the ribbon connector. while i was trying to remove the black glue tape, i broke part of the ribbon connector off. after what i thought was securing it, i reassembled the phone. the phone boots up perfectly except the screen doesnt turn on. hard to unlock my pin without seeing the numbers. i can accept phone calls, but i dont know who it is. seems i will be upgrading

if you tear a ribbon connector there is nothing you can do except get another one, the ribbon connector is what processes your video from the motherboard in the phone, and since you tore it, there is no repairing it. the antenna i promise you, you will want to put back on, you may drop calls like no ones business.
the adhesive is to protect the phone from a meltdown, i cant think of the name for it, but pc's use it to secure heat sinks down to the board, its such a heat resisitant glue that is why it is in your phone, just remember it was there for a reason.

you may have to either replace all the parts that you broke, or just purchase a new phone.

I'm ordering mine tomorrow! I'll be celebrating the Droid X's life this Thursday March 20th, 2012, outside of my apartment. May my Droid X rest in paradise, while it's soul lives on forever. I will never forget you, Droid X.

i would have bought a razr, but motorola has just P***ed me off with the bootloader thing. i mean c'mon the dx has been end of life for a while now and they release a bug fix update that blocks all known root methods. that is a dirty move.

Not exactly on topic, but I'm on the latest OTA with root. I use this app called OTA RootKeeper. It may be too late for your phone, but it's a good app to have installed on a rooted phone with OTA updates enabled.
