Root Droid X rooting issues!

Hey, guys, this is my first time rooting one of my phones. My buddy has rooted like 5 of his, so, I asked him how to..he said to skip doing all the complicated stuff and just use the z4root app. So, I downloaded it, turned my phone off, back on, opened the app, and clicked perm root. Well, I've tried four times now..it sits on the screen with a spinning loading circle and says "running exploit in order to obtain root access..." on the bottom. It usually does this for 5+ minutes..and then it just freezes. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...seeing as this is a one button click app..haha. Could someone please help!? All my software is up to date.

Just to clarify,

1 you downloaded it, installed it, rebooted before running it, after reboot and installed you did the first attempt to do a perm root?

Or

2 you downloaded it, rebooted, installed it then went directly into the app and tried ?

I have seen the 2nd way fail the way you're explaining but I have yet to have the first way fail on 3 different devices.

Just trying to understand the process of what you did :)

#1. I downloaded, rebooted, I manually went and opened the app, and then finally clicked permanent root and got that message I just said for a few minutes until it froze completely.

try uninstalling it all, reboot, then install the app, reboot again, go into the z4 app and try perm root. But you must have the settings right for allowing unknown sources , OH do you have USB debugging turned on as well, in the applications menu? it's under development?

Actually, I already had all that done. I uninstalled and tried again. worked first try! :D Thanks, man! Really appreciate it! :D
