Help Droid X Signal problems?

Keep that number for reprogramming. Its always a good idea to refresh from time to time as Verizon upgrades their towers.
Unless Im completely off ( and I could be... got out of surgery yesterday and have fun pain pills going), check your battery status. Go into your setting - battery manager and check the profile. If its on smart mode I know that reduces the power that effect signal strength. I have that on myself. And it has not stopped me from receiving a call yet when the screen is off.
Im hoping that is what the issue is.
Ive also noticed that while Im on wifi my signal strength fluctuates off of 3g. But the moment a call comes in or as I stated before, I drop wifi the strength returns.

It was on smart mode yes; but, when i took it to performance mode, same difference. I think i've ruled out wifi unless the wifi issue affects it even if wifi is off because of a software issue.

Maybe its something inherent in the programming. Does it effect anything your doing on the phone? If not you may want to wait on returning.. Im sure that OTA's will be coming out for minor fixes. The other option is to exchange.
I'm seeing the fluctuation on mine as well but since I downloaded wfifixer its not limiting anything I do.

It does not seem to be affecting anything, installed wififixer, no difference. It doesn't affect anything as it only goes no service, 1x, and back to 3g in about a second or two, so by the time you have unlocked the phone and tried to do something, service is back.

I'm having the exact same issue, both mine and my girlfriends phone so I really don't think it's a defect. I think it's some sort of glitch with software. I plan to wait for an OTA(hopefully within the first 30 days just in case). I go from 3 bars 3G to nothing to 1X and then back to 3G like you said; same with my girlfriends. We are in an area that is completely blanketed in 3G service so that shouldn't be happening. I think all we can really do is wait right now and see if an OTA fixes it.

nah I've never lost signal completely like that, but I'm definitely jumping around like crazy. I was real bummed when I saw it cause like you I came from at&t which I hated, but the 3G was at least constant.

This is the same boat Im in. I like the phone but have to have a reliable signal. After all, the device is used to make calls.

Mine does the same thing. It will completely loose signal then return to 3G then go back to 1x. It's annoying. I may have to return it and go back to AT&T cause I have to have an operational phone for work.

I hear you guys, 1X and seconds of 3G and then back to 1X. I will take it to Verizon tomorrow.

Is anyone else able to duplicate the loss of service, 1x, to 3g event when hitting the screen on/of button at the top?

Not here.

Mine hasent done this yet. I ordered mine thru Verizon website. Did all yall having this problem order from the website or get it from the store?

It sounds like a glitch or bad phone, bad activation.

glitch and bad phone maybe, not bad activation. i've activated a couple times since so one should have been good by now. if anyone goes to the verizon store and gets info make sure to post back here. thanks!

Im going to the store tomorrow. The bad thing is, these phones are trickling in now. I dont know if they will have a replacement. I havent left ATT yet though and verizon gives you 30 days to make a decision on their service. Hopefully in that time I can get another phone to compare to.

yeah i'm worried about the lack of stock too. I'm actually going in tomorrow to try to exchange mine as well. I have the ear piece buzz others are having. Hopefully I can get a new phone w/o the reception issue and buzz issue at the same time

my phone worked fine today, still doing that same thing but i don't know if i'm going to return it so let me know, those of you that take them in, what happens with the verizon folks.

I'm having all the issues described above. The phone will constantly change from 3G to 1x and occasionally to no service and then the phone will not recover a signal until I reboot it. I tried toggling airplane mode but no dice. All of this is happening in an area where I get 5 bars 3G on my old Droid and an LG dumbphone (in fact, the Droid X shows the 5 bars 3G when it's not screwing up). Also the phone always shows no signal when waking it up from sleep (but then goes to 3G in a few seconds). It looks like all of this is due to some kind of software issue with the cellular radio but I hope they push an update out soon because this is not very reliable at all.

I'm getting problems where it says "no reception" while I am browsing the web or the app store.

I am not sure if it is the wifi signal; that is dropping out.

I have a stereo bluetooth headset hooked up to mine, when the phone goes into standby after 1 min, the bluetooth stops playing.......my iphone didn't do this, is this a setting I need to change or is this another symptom?

I just spent the afternoon at a mall with plenty of signal for my other/dumb phone, and had a bear of a time. The signal went from no bars to all bars to no bars, 3G to 1x, both indoors in a dept store and even outside when I had to put something in my car. Worst part was that I was with my family and we agreed to call each other etc. - well every time I called any one of them, it would ring one time, then go back to the previous screen and I'd lose the call. It was 100% of the time. I had downloaded launcherpro this morning, and uninstalled that.

Took it to the mall VZW store - a rep who is the technical person couldn't figure it out either. He messed quickly with a few windows and when I said that I didn't know what he was doing, he said "neither do I". It worked better after that, though, FWIW. I'm pretty disappointed - it was completely unreliable for calls, and I couldn't text at one point, either - after I hit "send" it would just go to the previous screen with no message sent.

It's good to hear that others have some problems, but I'd love to find a solution....
