One bite at a time...
Try re-seating the battery. Sometimes the contacts on the batteries in these phones can get off kilter and don't seat properly in the battery compartment. In these phones there really isn't an on-off button per se. When you install the battery the phone should power up. If it doesn't, after re-seating the battery, call Verizon...
Another possibility may be that the contacts inside the battery compartment don't extend out far enough. Depending on how they set the contacts this one might be a wee bit more difficult to resolve.
