Hi all, My question is when you download a .apk from Amazon or the Android Market and install it,does the .apk remain on the phone or is it deleted? If it is stored on the phone, can you tell me the location of the files? Also, can they be retrived by a 3rd party app of some kind? Thanks harry754:)

I believe it has to be saved somewhere, I'm just not sure myself but I can tell you that if you use an application like Titanium Backup Pro you can make a backup of the apps that you have installed so that if you reset or change your ROM you can restore them. There are a number of programs that can do this as well. If you search "application backup" on the android market it will yield some results on some apps that will do the job. You of course have to be rooted.

I'm sure there are some smarter users on here that can tell you where they are stored.. :-)

The APKs for the user apps usually get installed in the /data/app directory.

System APKS are stored in /system/app.
