Droid X2 soak test on the way

Just saw this over at Droid Life.

DROIDX2 July 2011 Soak Test to Begin, We’ll Assume that it’s Gingerbread - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

So, assuming this is Gingerbread, what steps should I take to get this. I'm rooted, running V6 Supercharger with a bunch of bloatware frozen.

I assume that my first step would be to unfreeze the apps, then stop the script from running at boot, then unroot the device, then remove super user, since I'm guessing that Gingerbread would break root or may brick the phone with everything that I've done to it.
 
Thanks for the good news! Im asking the same question... I know I need to unfreeze all my app first. Do I just uninstall Gingerbreak and superuser? Or factory reset?
 
As exciting as it is, I think I'm going to hold off on unrooting. My X2 performs fantastically, so I'm not in any rush to get GB. I'm going to wait to see what the general consensus on GB is and see if it's worth it to me. Plus, I wanna keep root, so I'll probably hold off til they figure out how to get root on GB.

I hear ya. My phone is running pretty well too, but every now and then, Slacker and Pandora go all tits up and I end up having to reboot (if the phone doesn't do that on its own.)

I figure that if I do unroot and install this update (whatever it turns out to be) and everything gets worse, I could always use the SBF to get back to the way the phone was when I bought it and root all over again.
 
Being the impulsive person that I am I figured I'd be the Guinea pig if I'm lucky enough to be included in the soak.

I came back to work and unrooted. As far as I can tell, I should be ready when the update comes out.

Of course, the phone is performing terribly right now :)
 
If im registered on Motorola site and applied for the soak test should I unfreeze my apps now or wait for an email and than unfreeze my apps.

May as well wait until you get the notice that the update is ready. I signed up, but after thinking about it, I might not be one of the people that gets chosen initially.

It might be better to wait to unroot especially if your phone is running good right now -- could be a few weeks before we hear anything.
 
Is it necessary to unroot before an official update? I've just come to the X2 from my OGD and have always done it myself. If so, how does one even unroot a phone?
 
I did root with Gingerbreak and unrooting was pretty easy. There is an unroot option within the program. Just make sure to unfreeze any apps that you froze before you unroot (providing you froze them, of course.)
 
Hoping this fixes weird freezing issues, random reboots, slow camera and gallery, music issues, and other shit-tastic glitches Moto has provided for us.

I've been closely watching the Droid 3 threads here and on a few other forums just to see if anyone was reporting the issues some have had with the X2, and so far, I haven't seen anything major. This makes me think that either a) being similarly specced devices, Gingerbread is making a difference, or b) if it's not Gingerbread, then it's the OMAP vs Tegra 2 that's making the difference.

If it's Gingerbread, then we should definitely see a much better device once it rolls out. If it's the processor, then it's back to rooting and hoping for a more capable ROM down the road.

I will say that after using the phone unrooted since about noon, it's like night and day when compared to all the tweaks I did to it. It's sluggish now, all the music issues are back and it's just not as responsive.

I guess we'll know in a few weeks though. Fingers crossed!

Gingerbread 2.3.3 did have problems with dual cores and that is a reason for 2.3.4. Works great on the D3 and zero lag or audio pop issues.

DX2 shipped with borked firmware and seems that when GB ships for the DX2, it should make it seem like a DX2.5 (better functioning device and with no needs to tweak). The D3 requires no tweaks and works great (which is good news, since no root ATM).

So I'm guessing that the updates that are rolling out today are actually the soak tests since I can't find any confirmation that people are getting GB yet, and that the real roll out will begin either tomorrow or next week.

I would suggest going back to factory build to avoid risk of bricking or messing up your upgrade chances.
