Root DroidX--No service > Root

Droid X GB 605; rooted using Pete's Motorola Root Tools yesterday. Installed Titanium Pro. Got WiFi. Tethered.

Still got WiFi, but GOT NO SERVICE (says so right on the screen, and a big red no-smoking sign over the bars before someone asks if it is really no service...)

Clicking About Phone just dumps back to Home; Call Settings says "Application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly"--> Force stop.
Booted 3 times, no joy.

(In the interest of getting opinions, I am posting this on a couple of forums--hope that doesn't neg anyone out.)

Sounds like SBF time :) Have you done this before?

Yes, but not for this, and only using the Factory Data Reset under Privacy.

Only way to do this? And what happens when I redo root if I don't know what I did wrong?

TiBu is Titanium? Uninstalled a couple, then when this happened reinstalled everything (apps, Data, System) from backup.

yes TiBu=Titanium

i was wondering if you uninstalled a necessary app. Just for future reference its better to freeze than uninstall.

did you have service before you rooted? What was the last thing you did before you got "no service"

OK, so no uninstall--freeze only.

I did *228. Then I rooted using Pete's Motorola. When I finished rooting, and reinstalling apps TiBu Pro, CLZ Barry, CLZ Books, SplashID, I backed up. I WiFi Tethered and it worked. Then I uninstalled some things I thought were bloatware. I had service.

Then this am no service. Booted several times. No joy.

I thought I reinstalled all apps & data & system from TiBu via batch, but just now I found a screen that showed them still crossed out. I tried to reinstall one, VoiceMail, and it is hanging in restoring app+data for 10 minutes. I am afraid to interrupt it, now--don't need a paper-weight!

Ok did you make a back up after you rooted BEFORE you did anything else. before you touched bloat before you even downloaded TiBu?

Rule #1 of Root Club.

1. Make a backup as soon as you root. So that you can always restore to that backup if something goes wrong.

Why did you do *228 before you rooted?

With all of that said your fastest option is probably going to be applying an SBF and just starting fresh.

you could spend hours trying to figure out what is causing it. or you could backup all of your apps in TiBu and do an SBF in less time.

after you SBF you'll be stock NOT rooted so it will get you back to square one.

OK--sounds right, unfortunately.

i backed up right after I installed TiBu--I thought the installed Backup only did Contacts, and that I needed TiBu to do an app backup. Misunderstanding? What do I have installed that I can use to BU if not TiBu?

So I root, install TiBu and the other 4 apps and data, backup, freeze whatever I think is bloat (considerably more conservatively this time?)

no

Root
boot into clockwork and do a backup
then install any apps you want including TiBu and do a restore in TiBu of missing apps. Some apps are safe to restore the app and data but some will not work right. DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM DATA FROM WITHIN TIBU

some of the confusion may be that we're really talking about two diff backups. The backup you do in clockwork immediately after you root is a sys backup. That is the most important. Because you can always restore to that point if you hammer things up.

the other backup is in TiBu in which mainly is used to backup your apps and app data.
