Help dropped calls on at&t galaxy s2

hey guys, my phone's not even a month old and i keep getting weird dropped calls... i have full bar and have 1mbps download speeds, but sometimes i'd randomly wont hear anything during the call and it'll drop and calls dont come through and i can't make them... any idea what the issue might be?

Is this your first At&t phone, if it is welcome to the wonder At&t Universe. The SGS2 gets much better reception then my old Nexus One but I still get dropped calls (just not as many).

Funny thing is, and I guess it really depends on where you're located, I have the international unlocked version and compared to my previous phone where I had quite a few dropped calls, I have not gotten any so far. Here I am thinking the radio is GREAT in this phone because of MY experience, but I have heard so many other negative complaints about SAMSUNG phones and of course about at&t. All great here...

not sure what you mean by the "wonder of at&t universe" because i think i can count on one hand how many unexplained dropped calls I've had on my at&t phones since I started with them 6-7 years ago. call me lucky i guess.

Meant "wonderful world of at&t universe", driving down Jericho Turnpike over this summer I experienced 6 dropped calls in a matter of just a few miles, including when I drove right past the entrance way of a corporate At&t office (not a store). I would say you are lucky if you only have that few, or maybe I am just unlucky.

maybe a little bit of both. You're a little closer to the congestion than I am, so maybe jericho tnpk has bad service lol

My calls have been pretty reliable on ATT S2 so far, even when I'm in a weak spot indoors with only 2 bars, I can get them through loud and clear.

My 1st gen iPhone OTOH, dropped calls left and right on ATT network, one of the reasons I switched to blackberry which had about 3 dropped calls in the 2 years I had it.

The problem is with AT&T's network, at least in southern california. Its something you learn to deal with or switch to verizon (which has 100% better network in southern california)

yeah, thats the thing. AT&T's network might be good in one area but that doesnt mean its good in another. I dont have any problems in my area but SoCal might.

I had this problem with the Captivate. I was dropping calls at home where I never had issues before. Could be the phone.

hmm well this isn't my first at&t phone, as a matter of fact i'd had their service for 6years and i had an iphone before this, and i used to get shit load of dropped calls when i was using the edge network, but that problem went away when i turned the 3g network on. this is the 1st time i've ever experienced dropped calls on a 3g or "4g" network... i really wish they had this phone out for verizon, i would've given up the unlimted data...

I've been with ATT for a year now. Just got my S2 two days ago too. I live in SoCal and no exaggeration I haven't had any issues with dropped calls. It's happened a few times but I can count it on one hand. I am actually really happy with their service so far.

how are the internet speeds there? my girl's in la right now and she's thinking of getting a smart phone but we've been hearing it's real bad in la area... and when i did go visit, the internet speeds weren't too great...

The internet speeds have been good so far(knock on wood) I just ran speedtest and I'm getting 4 down and 1 up. Not bad at all for LA area.

I drop about 2 calls a day ..... I will be talking and the next thing I here is the beep in my ear.

I didn't have this problem with the Atrix or the Iphone 4

I'm having a terrible problem with dropped calls. I'm in N. Cal., SF Bay Area, and get repeated drops on I-680 through San Ramon, and other areas, with 4 bars showing. I didn't have this problem with my previous Galaxy, which had a bunch of other problems. I've had the S2 replaced already, which has fixed some other problems, but the drops continue. This really sucks!

Verizon has the worst drop call history I've ever dealt with. When I called them to cancel my service, they acted like they didn't give a damn. Didn't even ask me a reason.

I went back to AT&T (I've been with them, or their off-shoots for 20+ years), they welcomed me with open arms. I rarely have issues with my service (and most cases have been phone related) and they've always been a pleasure dealing with. Heck, just this last bill, wiping out activation/upgrade fees and some crap my kids accidentally (hmm...) loaded on their phones. At the end, they had wiped out over $100 in charges. Even though they said, it wouldn't show up until my next bill... those charges were wiped out before my current bill even came due.

Talk to them with respect and kindness, drop bad attitudes or entitlement attitudes (not projecting this at anyone in particular) and 9 times out of 10, they will bend over backwards to help find a solution.

Quick update: I went back to AT&T yesterday, got my 3rd(!!) S2, and the dropped call problem seems to have gone away... this was a handset problem! Weird - and pretty sad that 2 of 3 phones were bad - maybe Samsung is losing it...

I just wanted to bump this back up because I have been using my phone for voice calls a lot more lately, and I drop at least 50% of my calls. Doesn't usually happen with quick "what do you want for dinner" calls, but with any lengthy conversation, I drop a lot of damn calls. I would expect it more inside my home, but this is usually while I'm driving, in or around the Tampa area...large market...no reason for it.

Have you tried the Carrier Coverage app? It could give you a decent idea if it's your phone or your carrier.

I'll try it. Shouldn't have any trouble here at all, though. I show bars. It's not like I have zero signal when I drop the calls.
