Help Dropped Galaxy S in water :-(

You have to be very patient... keep it covered in rice, sealed in container or plastic bag... also expose it to sunlight, but make sure u expose the rice to sunlight the cell phone should be covered in rice... i have tried and saw that the moisture came out and it was stuck to the plastic bag from inside... i waited for hours but i shud have been more patient, coz i lost the screen... now my phone seems like working well except for the screen i cant see anything... buy since the touch was working, so i managed to plug in the usb cable and take out the backup... now its back in rice.. i hope it gets ok... but i dnt have much of worry now.. now i'll leave it for couple of days.... but its better you keep it in the rice for at least 2 days... it depends how much water got inside... keep the battery aside... as its not good to expose the battery to sunlight.... best of luck..

A couple of days seems like forever!! :( I have had the phone in rice since 11am this morning. My dad tried to see if it worked just now but it didnt do anything. This morning when he tried charging it (stupid i know!) the screen showed the charging picture but it didnt want to come on by the button. Tonight when he tried it didnt come on at all!!-not even the picture of the charging. Its now back in the bag of rice on the radiator shelf in a tea towel for extra warmth. As we dont hav a lot of sunlight!! On a website it said to put the battery in the rice with the phone but disconnected so thats in there too-do u think i should take it out?...I'm just losing hope now...I may call Samsung to ask if they can do something to just get the photos off-they can keep the phone and I'll pay if I have to! The thing that concerns me is that i dried it out again on the radiator in a towel the night b4 when it happened and put it in the rice 12hours after it happened so I feel I didn't act quick enough and really messed up my phone!! Also another problem is that the battery was really low when it happened and so I have to charge the battery a bit to see if it works! I don't know anyone else with a Galaxy S
to borrow the battery off...I just want the photos and videos off then I don't care what happens to the bloody phone! I will find an old phone to use! Glad u got the memory off yours though, bet that's a huge relief!

Thanks for replying to my post..Hope your screen comes back. How long after you dropped yours did you rice it and tried putting it on? And it worked??

my 2 year old daughter dropped my droid in the toilet and sat there for like five minutes. i freaked out took everything out ( battery and Sim ) dried it off with a towel and put it in rice for not even 24 hours. plugged her in and works perfectly fine. Nothing is wrong with it. the screen flickered for a minute and that was it. what a beast! :o When i first plugged it in the battery picture also came up but didnt turn on. then i tried it again. plugged it in the charger turned it on and boom it worked!

I just wanted to add my support for the rice technique! I dropped my galaxy S in the toilet (it was empty!:P) on friday night, it must have been in there only a few seconds - even the water sensors appear unfazed by the accident. I immediately took the components apart and left it until the morning. I then buried the phone with rice in a sealed box and put it in the airing cupboard. Each day I turned the phone over to ensure the water wouldnt stay put. Left it for about 4 days in all. And now.... it works!!! Phone seems absolutely fine. I was extremely pleased considering the extra crevices I created when I accidently smashed the top of the screen a year ago. Have hope!! :)

What about rice?

I have a galaxy s2, and it was submerged for about two seconds before I pulled the case off, dried it, took it apart and put it in front of a fan on a window sill. I'm almost certain it's dry on the inside, and I'm starting to think the problem is the battery. The screen was still working when I took it out, and the last thing I saw was a critical charge indicator. I figure the battery probably shorted out, so I'm off to check with my friend's s2 a little later today. If that isn't it, it sounds like the alcohol is the next logical step. I let it dry for 24 hours, then tried to turn it on, not even a flicker. So now it is in rice until further notice. Will the 91% alcohol work though? I need to know if another trip to the store is necessary!

I have some reservation and hesitation using liquid to dry electronic. Most people that use rice and let their phones sit in it for 2/3+ days have posted that their phones worked afterwards.

Alright, I'll try that first. I'm almost certain the battery is the main issue, but once I get that taken care of, back in the rice it goes. Did anyone have the isopropyl thing work for them?

my samsung galaxy s fell into the water yesterday. it was in the water for a few seconds. then i tried to turn it on for a few times, it didnt work. took the parts apart, opend the back and used alcohol to clean them. now only the keys light on. what should i do? is the mother bored fried or just give it a few days to dry?

Why did you turn it on after dropping it in the water >_< It's pretty common sense not to do that as you can fry the phone's circuit as you don't know how much water has gotten into the phone. You can still try putting your phone in a rice bag and see how that goes.

Hi everyone! I spilled coffee over my samsung galaxy s :(((( I instantly took the back lid apart and the battery, wiped it all with paper towel as well as from the front. Turned it on and it worked as usual. The next day, though i noticed the central button to be malfunctioning. It takes some effort to make it work. Not a big problem but still pretty annoying. Any advice on that????

I split a bit of water on my galaxy s2 like 2 weeks ago, I just wiped water off and didnt do anything about it cos it was working fine. Then a few days ago, my phone ran outta battery completely (not the first time that has happened since the spillage) and i went to charge it, it turned on, but the screen was blank except for a strip of faint colour at the top, where i could see messages etc that i needed to read. I could still hear messages etc coming through but the screen was just black, do you think this is anything to do with the spillage, considering it worked for 2 weeks after? also is there anyway i can get all my photos and videos off the phone?

Can you hook your phone to the computer and see if you have access to the mass USB storage.

If you drop a phone in water-- remove the battery and any covers. Wipe as much water as you can. DO NOT PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN. Place on a warm place-- on a cable box is good, as it maintains about 100 degrees. Let it sit over night-- that will help dry it out. Insert the battery the next day, charge the phone, and keep your fingers crossed.

Trying to operate a phone with water in it, is the worst thing you can do to it.

my fren's sister pushed me inside the pool with my samsung galaxy s2 in my pocket..it was in the pool for like 2~3 secs and i straight away pulled the battery, simcard and sd card out..had to walk for 3 minutes to get to my room and dry it out..first i dry it with my towel..then i was freaked out that i eventually use the hair dry to blow the excess water.idk wether it is a good or not..i didnt think through...but yea,i blow it with cold air..then hot air from far..thought the water might evaporates...so i blow the phone for like 10~15 minutes...then i put in the phone in box full of rice...from where i lived, we dont have the radiator thing.cause it is already hot here...but now its already night..so i got no warm item or anything to make it warm..

okay from what i have done so far..is there any wrong with it???..
how long i should let it inside the box contains rice and how long i should put it under the warmth of sun???

please help me, my dad is going to kill me if this phone is a goner -.-
and sorry if my english is bad.still learning

Putting the rice in a seal tight container should be sufficient enough. Wait for 2-3 days just to be safe. From what I have read 3 days should do the trick. *crosses fingers* Hopefully your fast thinking and action does the trick.

thanks xecutioner :)..yeah i'm still waiting right now.haven't even open the box or anything yet.well, left 1 and a half day more until the result :(

THANK GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD :):):eek::):eek::):eek::)

I WAS VERY VERY HAPPY TO SAY THIS CAUSE MY PHONE IS AHHHHHLIVE!!!..
i couldnt bear to wait any longer cause my parents kept pushing me why i didnt pick up their phone calls..so i just to slowly put every part into one piece properly..

1st - i tried to turned on the on button.no results..so i went and charge the phone.the first good news was the battery symbol was on the screen but the bad news was it went like kinda lag or something.then i just straight away on the phone..everything went fine :):):):)..i checked everything , all my files , contacts , camera with flash brightness , lcd brightness , sound check , touch screen sensor buttons , wifi connections and i did try making calls( everything is fine with the specker and microphone, my fren could hear me loud and clear)..

2nd- everything was fine...but suddenly,*CHANG CHANG CHANG CHAAAAAANG(dramatic moments)..i cnt send any messages..i was like okay maybe this is not the worst thing happened to me. maybe i can get it fix..but i scared the guy cant get it fix because of the water went inside the phone and blah blah blah..plus i dont have enough money to fix it -.-...okay, so what i did was i try to spot the problems..first, i found out that the space bar has got a language selection(idk how the hell it went there)..then after i pressed send, the msg didnt appear in the conversation box..after that i realized everytime i go back to the main msg box..i doesnt start with the recent people msg to...maybe i could try and fix it myself before i send it to the repair store.what i did was i tried like msg setings and language and etc..it doesnt work..try make new conversation box..doesnt work..so the last thing i did was to reset the whole phone to factory data..and heck of a good news..the msg thing is fixed :D:D..ahah miracles i guess..i am very happy right now...anyway..i think before u reset to factory data..i think u should wait until ur phone completely scan ur media files and everything..i think waiting for that might get work too..i forgot to check after the scan was completed. :p

anywho , thanks a lot guys for the infos and everything, i owe u guys a lot :):):) ...so guys , what i learn right now is dont get your phone near to the pool or any solvent that can kill ur phone..

tips of what i did after the accident ( might help since my phone is alive)
-take out every component in your phone *battery, simcard, sdcard, etc
-do not i say do noooot put it back and try to turn on ur phone
-get as fast as possible to wipe or dry the water away from your phone
-hair dryer might helps, but keep it to cool air than hot air.this will evaporates the water faster.medium speed.up to how many minutes until u very sure that u cant find any drops of water inside it.
-then put it in a bag of rice or a tight sealed container full of rice and let it stay inside for 2 or 3 days..try to put under the sun but do not put like direct contact.the heat of the sun which is the one you need it.

i hope this helps, cheers and wait for miracles :)..i got my miracles, now i just let my phone rest and charge :)
owh yea, i would to say thanks to roze and xecutioner for the support,u guys rock:D

hi all
have been on a walk on dartmoor over the weekend and i fell in a marsh up to my waist and my samsung galaxy y was in my trouser pocket so i have put it in a bag of rice for a few days turn it on tried to charge it and it turns itself off and comes up with the normal large battery to say it was charging but it has a triangle with a smaller battery in it with a line through it does anyone know what the problem is ?!?!?

Recently, I accidentally set my self of fire by dumbly pouring some fuel on a dying fire. Luckily that morning I'd run a bath and forgot about it so jumped straight in that to put myself out. Unluckily, my new galaxy s2 was in my pocket at the time, but it was turned off.

Now, I reckon if I'd taken the phone apart, dried it properly it would have been fine. Long story short it went 'missing' for 3 months and it was returned. Obviously has been used so the phone works but the battery temp is at 67 degrees and won't charge. Once the remaining charge ran out, the battery stopped working all together within 5 mins. got a new battery, same problem. The left hand side of the phone near the bottom gets extremely hot after about a minute of being on.

The phone had just been charged so the "kind gentlemen" who took it must have run it for at least 12 hours, so god knows how long it was overheating for. Everything seems to work fine on it, I just can't charge it as the battery overheating symbol comes up when it's plugged in.

Any chance this could ever get fixed? Does anyone know anywhere good in the UK that could repair it?

I quickly dried it after it fell, (took out the bat & SIM card).

It did turn on, however... It's on calibrated horizontally. & now it won't go back to the regular normal vertical screen. What can I do? Is there any way I can fix it? Or should I send it back in & get a new one (I have the Best Buy Black Tie Protection).

Please reply back! I need my phone for work & school purposes.

Thanks :)
