Dropped phone question...

I have dropped my Bionic like 10 times :banghead:

from around my waist area onto some hard surfaces (like pavement)

I am curious as to what damage could be done besides cosmetic damage. Could the insides of the phone be compromised?

Thanks :)

Very easily. There is a lot of hardware in there and there is virtually no shock absorbency built into the phone. Every drop has the chance of disrupting the circuitry in there in some manner or fashion, whether it be slightly or seriously, and they could lead to minute problems all the way to truly bricking your phone.

how will I be able to tell if I have hardware problems?

phone seems to be running fine... some lag and funky things here and there...

In any of 100,00 different ways.

If you pull off the back and pull out the battery you might see that the two cards are not properly seated (or they may be OK). As John pointed out what is under that is a massive sophisticated computer with absolutely no shock protection.

Here's something else to think about. I don't have any protection on my Bionic and have not dropped it. You seem to be prone to dropping it. Have you inverted in a good third-party case and screen protector for the next 10 times you drop it?

Everything is seated fine (I checked after every time it was dropped) and the phone seems to be running fine from what I can tell, but, to be honest, my phone right before this was an LG Ally. So, my perception of "fine" could be slightly ignorant... :D

Yes sir, I have invested in a case and screen protector :)

In the computer industry we have a scientific name for this ... you "lucked out". Strangeness may still crop up in the future.

I dropped my Ally on asphalt from standing on the tailgate of a pickup truck once. The back cover and battery went flying apart but other than a slight scratch on the top (which you had to look real hard to even notice) it was fine! That phone was one tough cookie!:D
I haven't had to find out how tough my Bionic is yet & hopefully won't have to but that's what insurance is for.

If you have a case not as much damage will be done, but either way, it is really easily damaged. A phones hardware inside is very detailed and it only takes one broken circuit/item to mess it all up, depending on what takes the impact.

So, pretty much if my phone is still working, nothing "important" was damaged? (hopefully and luckily...)

If it's working, it's working. Just to be extra safe you might want to keep a eye on it the first few times you charge it to make sure nothing overheats & causes a fire in case the charging circuit or battery was damaged in some way, but it looks like your good to go.
