Help Dropping WIFI

It works fine for a few minutes then just drops off. Then I have to turn off wifi and wait a bit then try again. It does it a lot. I have changed wireless routers and even moved one to the floor that I am on. I have also reset the routers.

Is there a setting in the phone other than (never allow wifi to sleep mode)? What about the wireless router. Anything I should do special in that?

The only thing I did was Phiremod 6.2. And this issue has happend from day one.

I am now noticeing that it does it with my DX also.

So it must be my wireless settings or something in my house messing with the wireless frequency or something?

If you leave your NC turned off, does your wifi work ok with everything else?

I had a similar issue when I updated my NC to the stock 1.2 rom... it was crashing my router. After I flashed back to Phiremod, everyone was happy.

Did the phiremod have issues with wifi?

Well as long as I am asking did you hear anything on battery life? Mine drops crazy fast. Well at least it seems like it. Maybe its the number value that messes with my head vs the battery logo that just slowly moves.?

If you used the 1300 mhz OC kernels, yes for some people.

I thought I had that issue, but turns out it had to do with accidentally selecting "airplane mode", which meant my wireless was turned off every time I booted. If you turn on airplane mode, it's a bugger to turn off since the control won't fix it for you.

A lot of wifi problems are independent of the device (not to say that was Casemantwo's issue). Here's a excellent discussion of the wifi environment:
Part 1: Why Your Wi-Fi Sucks And How It Can Be Helped, Part 1 - Please Power Down (you need to step through the pictures and hit "read more")
Part 2: Why Your Wi-Fi Sucks And How It Can Be Helped, Part 2 : Welcome To The Wi-Fi Cage Match

There's also a nice wifi analyzer here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&feature=search_result
that will show you what your local environment is in real time.

You can also see by experimenting with the wifi analyzer that how you hold the NC makes a big difference - i.e. don't wrap your hand around it from side to side.

I had the same problem. Can't find the link but here's the setup:

Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Device Hostname

Check your device name. Certain characters are known to interfere with the connection. For example, my stock device name had a '-' character which was nuking my connection every few minutes. I simply changed the Hostname to 'nookcolor', rebooted and I was all set.

Hope that helps. I know it was very frustrating for me.

OMG! I went through three Linksys routers, WRT54g models, because they constantly crashed when Apple products (that's not a joke, either) were connected to it. They would run for weeks on end with only "PC"s, but connect a Mac and the entire network would be dead within an hour.

This is a YMMV type of thing. This is my current host name:
android-afb45835b43567b3

I have zero issues connecting and maintaining connection to my 3com WL-537.

My router died last year and I replaced it with a Cisco wireless-n model. Later when I discovered my wife's Internet speed exceeded wireless G specs (Comcast), I traded with her.

My brother-in-law wanted to connect a new 17" laptop (free from cc points) to wireless and I fought tooth and nail for hours, trying to get the same Cisco router to work, finally we returned it to Walmart and bought a Netgear and I was impressed. Within minutes of connecting to the cable modem, it downloaded a firmware update, updated itself and was working.

A few weeks later, one of the girls at work, smart, but not at all a computer person, wanted wireless at home and I suggested the $35 Netgear again. She had no trouble connecting it herself.

A few weeks ago, my AT&T router died (wife's old one) and I again went with the $35 Netgear and have had no problems with it, but must admit, there's no place for Apple-anything here. :D

The AT&T router I had here (before it died) worked fine with everything I had, including wireless printing, but when I updated the stock 1.1 NC software to 1.2, it would crash the router. I've never had that problem with any other rom version.
