Drowned Rezund

I can't believe it didn't last long enough to see ICS. Slim chance it fires back up but really bummed. Looks like I'm going back to my original Motorola Droid.

So bummed I misspelled Rezound.

Toilet, swimming, or washing machine?

If it just got wet with clean water, the rice trick might do it. Just make sure you pull the battery and cards, and let it sit for a long time.

If it was in a lake, it will need to be rinsed. I suggest distilled water, though it might not survive additional dunking. But fresh water and room-temperature drying could possibly save it, at least in the short term.

If it went through a full cycle in the laundry, same as above but your chances are much lower. The dried soap is slightly conductive, and it will probably cause corrosion.

If you have lost all hope, it can be stripped down and cleaned with isopropyl. The adhesives will need to be replaced, but it's a good project when you're bored.

Good luck, and I'm sorry for your loss.

I know alot of people don't like to pay the $5-$7 a month BUT, unfortunatly, accidents like this happen... And would be worth it. Sorry for the loss my friend.

Glass of tap water spilled. I had it in rice overnight, looked this morning and it seems to be getting all of the water out. We'll see in time if it turns back on.

I don't know if it's recommended or not but I saved a Blackberry once with a hair dryer. Be patient; it takes a long time for all of the water to evaporate from all the nooks and crannies.

I'd be careful with the hair dryer. The Rezound has such a fine resolution screen, it wouldn't take too much to overheat it and cause the pixels to bleed. Just my theory.

For what it may be worth to you in the way of a cheering up:

My Eris fell out of my pocket in the back yard while I was adjusting a sprinkler. About 10 minutes later I noticed that it was missing. Found it right next to the impact type sprinkler. It was face up, and covered in water. Water had definitely gotten inside. After it dried out, it worked just fine for 18 months before the digitizer failed (totally unrelated). BTW, I did not use rice to dry it out, just put it on a sunny Florida window sill and left it there for a few hours.

My (idiot) wife let some little brat swat her Eris into a sink in a Wal-Mart bathroom. There was about 2" of water in the sink. When it dried, it worked pretty well for a while, a short while. BUT she had turned the Eris on while it was wet. From what I have heard, she should not have done that.

Please notice that the Eris has two mechanical push buttons and a trackball on the front. All three of these are effectively gaping holes to let water in. Your Rezound has no such "inlet ducts" at all so it should be less prone to letting in big amounts of water as quickly as the Eris does.

Did you pull the back cover, battery, SIM card, and SD card? Do the water indicators show anything?

Don't give up hope, let your Rezound dry out in rice or whatever for a couple of days or so. Or longer. I'd probably put mine on the window sill for a few hours after several days in the rice.

You should not have called your wife an idiot. Also, the Rezound has PLENTY of gaping holes in it. The buttons on the Eris are no more inviting than the hole in the rear cover of the Rezound for the camera and LEDs, not to mention the larger speaker slots. Though they are in the back and not a direct entry into the brains of the phone, any water that gets into the back will flood the battery compartment, SIM and SD card slots, and the antenna contacts. Each of these will provide quick access for moisture to wick into the warmer CPU portion of the higher-performing Rezound.

To the op....

I had my rezound fall into a sink full of water, the phone remained submerged for about 1 minute. When I pulled the phone out, water rushed out of it... soaked the phone inside and out. It went haywire until I pulled the battery out... phone seemed to be as good as dead. Until, I took the cover off and used a hairdryer. Placed the hairdryer on full blast and had it blow on the phone for 30 minutes. I let it sit for another 30 minutes and then used the hairdryer for 5 more minutes. Phone worked perfectly and I haven't had a problem since (incident was in January).

For what it's worth, I've saved two other water logged phones by taking the back off and then holding it out the window while I drove. A nice dry wind works well too, in case you're worried about the heat from a blow dryer.

Don't give up hope just yet.

My cousin had a DROID 2 go through a full wash cycle then 5 mins in the dryer before he realized what he did. He pulled it out put it in rice over night. Next morning it fired up and worked for 12 months. Its now his back up phone, he upgraded but the thing still works.

OP here. It has not come back to life. Looking on craigslist for a Rezound or Galaxy Nexus to replace it.

Try a Nexus if you want a device with more development and official support from Google. Rezound for hardware.

I ended up getting a Nexus, needed a phone before I left for vacation and no one was selling a rezound. I figure I can always sell it and come back to rezound if I don't like it.
