Root dumb keyboard question

Hey all,

I am this close vto getting a Nook Color and rooting that bad boy, but the reason i want it is primarily for portable writing.

The new Transformer would be nice, but again, a little too big to go in the pocket...

The 7in nook however... that'd fit in the back pocket or cargo pants pocket no problem(don't ask how I know.... lets just say security cord or no... those display units are watched closely in store!!!!)

In any case, I played with it about 1/2 hour the other day in store to the irritation of the employees and about half the time I was just typing on it.

I am fairly confident I can get used to the 7in touch screen, it won't be as fast as a full size keyboard, but just to get ideas down, save with quick office and transfer to the computer for later editing... it should do nicely.

The biggest annoyance I found was the bottom menu bar. I kept hitting that instead of the space bar. I do plan to root the device but have seen on several builds that bar still there at the bottom...

So the question is this. Is there a way to get rid of that bar so that the space bar on screen is at the bottom instead of the bar?

Thanks in advance!

If you root and put a rom on like Phiremod, then it's pretty much a stock Android Tablet. The bar goes away permanently.

Or you could run CM7 mod with the latest Dalingrin kernel and take advantage of Verygreen's USB hack and then , via a USB adapter, use a real keyboard. I did that and typing works well...
