Duplicate contacts showing up in messaging only

I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Express and brought my sim card over from my old phone which was a Samsung Appeal. When doing so I now have duplicate entries that show up but only in the messaging section of the phone and not in the contacts section. This was never an issue on my old phone. I have tried everything to make them go away but they won't. I have no accounts turned on to sync them. (Google, Samsung, etc.) I have all sync settings available shut off and I am not on any social media sites either. (Facebook, etc.) I have deleted all contacts off the phone and when doing so the messaging section looks good but once I import the contacts back into the phone from the sim card, they get duplicated again. I want to be able to have the contacts stored on the phone so I can have all the options and fields available to me so just choosing to see the contacts from the sim is not really an option for me. I have checked the amount of contacts on the sim and the amount matches when they are stored on the phone so I don't think there are duplicates on the sim causing the issue. I am also choosing to see only the contacts stored on the phone and its still a problem. I'm leery about trying an app to clear this up. Does anyone out there have any ideas or suggestions? Any help someone could give me would be very appreciated as I'm ready to tear my hair out on this one! Thanks!

Ok, I have figured this out for myself and thought I post what I did in hopes of helping others with the same problem. I created a Google Contacts account and brought all my contacts over (from my old phone via Wi-Fi but I'm sure you could use your current phone as well. I just knew that the old phone had a clean non duped listing of my contacts, with photo icons and all.) to have a back up of all the information. I then deleted all contacts off the new phone and off the sim card as well. I made sure that there were no contacts listed anywhere on the phone at all. I then got my contacts over from Google Contacts by going under the following settings in my phone: Contacts, menu, Accounts, Sync Settings, Auto Sync app data, and chose my Google acct and presto, my contacts were imported back into my cell phone and when I went into messaging I had no duplicates! Finally! I'm glad I figured this out as it was driving me crazy! I hope this information helps someone else out there!
