Help Duplicate Groups

My family recently moved from gmail to a Google Apps account. If I add a contact to the Family, Friends, Favorite, or Co-Workers group on my phone (HTC EVO 4G), they do not show up in that group in my Google Apps account. As a matter of fact, the Group names themselves don't even appear.

Now, if I ADD any of those groups to Google Apps, then the group appears on my phone, but as a duplicate. Meaning I have one Family group from the phone, and one Family group from Google Apps.

Here's what I mean:

Any of you know how to fix this issue?

Groups are linked to specific accounts, which is why you can see the Family group twice, once for each account. I don't think there is an easy way to change this, other than to remove the old account details and hopefully your old groups disappear. You'll still need to add contacts to the new groups though (do this from Google Apps, it'll be quicker than on the phone).

It seems daft when we're used to our phones being the source of all data. However, in the Google world the master source of all the data is in the cloud and your phone is just an amalgamated view of this.

I see your point on groups being tied to specific accounts, but my EVO only has the one Google account (actually one account of any type period) attached to it. Also, The "Companies" group was created on Google's site, while the "Hope Fellowship" group was created on my phone. Both of those only occur once in each location (phone & online).

On the Google Apps Contacts site, no groups were created when I first opened the account (at the same time I got my phone). That being said, when I first got the phone, there were standard groups that already existed, such as the one's I've mentioned in my OP. Those standard groups won't sync at all. Any groups ADDED to the phone however will appear on Google Apps. Any new groups I create on the phone will appear online, but any of the of standard groups (from the phone) that I manually have to add to Google Apps will be duplicated on the phone.

This is a bug that definitely needs to be fixed.

Ah, I misunderstood your initial comment about moving from gmail to google apps to mean that you'd synced initially with gmail :-)

The groups you mention (Family, etc) are considered special groups on the phone and are not synched by default. There's a bug report here that you can add your vote to.

In the meantime, I'd not use the special ones and use the ones that do sync to Google - you can add members to Groups from the Gmail application if that's easier.

Voted! Thanks for the link....
