Help Duration for System Upgrade

Lurker
Hi all,
I happened to get a notification on my phone today morning saying there was a system upgrade. I was in a hurry and didn't give it a second thought and hit OK. Ever since my phone's been stuck and won't start. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, then I left it untouched... it still won't budge. :(:(:( It's been like this the whole day!:confused:
Is there anyone out there who has faced a similar problem? Does a system upgrade take such a long time? Please provide me some pointers on how to bring my phone back to life. Thanks in advance!

Certainly shouldn't take that long. Some people have reported it taking these things an hour or so to download, but that will depend on the connection. Usually, it should take only a few minutes.

How long did you leave the battery out for? Try removing the battery for at least 30 seconds.

Other than that, I think your only option is a factory reset. You'll lose all your data and apps that you've installed on your phone when you do this, unless you have it backed up. You can call your network provider for advice, but I think they'll recommend the same.

Well, I believe the upgrade has been downloaded because I remember it asking me if I wanted to Install it now. After that it has been motionless. This is the second day it's not working. I'll try removing the battery again, but other than that the only option I'd have is to take it to a service center and get a reset done eh?

You don't need to take it anywhere to do a 'factory reset'. All a factory reset does is restore the phone to how it was* when you got it new. You can do this for yourself. There are instructions on how to do this in the manual (p. 198) that came on the SD card in your phone. (Or you can download the manual as a .pdf from the HTC website.) Here they are:

Performing a factory reset using the phone buttons

If you can’t turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a
factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER
button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release
the VOLUME DOWN button.
4. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER
button.

*It won't delete the update. If successfully installed, that will still be on your phone.

Looks like you've done all you can.

Time to send/take it back to where you bought it from.

PS But before you do that, in case you haven't already done so, try removing the SIM and SD card, before resetting it, so they aren't in the phone during this process.

Took it to the nearest service center and got it fixed. They said the system files had been corrupted during the upgrade or something. Luckily i had a backup of the stuff I needed! Thanks for the help notebook! :)

Looks like this is happening to quite a few people when updating the ROM. Glad you got it fixed relatively quickly.
