Dust under Screen issue

I "used" to be dust free. Then came my nifty case that fits snugly over the bottom and back of the phone. So I figured, why keep it in that pouch that everyone thinks I bought at the hello kitty store because of the cartoon android on it, I've got a nice silicone hybrid case that will protect it if I put it down.

2 days go by and now theres a LOT of dust near the bottom of the screen. I can see it, and if I look at it in sunlight, it looks like 3x more dust. So, I guess a third is visible without sunlight while I'm trying to use the phone normally.

I'm debating whether to send it in, or just wait until it collects some more dust, to have it cleaned. I'm assuming they don't know how to fix it. Any thoughts?

i'm going to keep using the neoprene pouch until my leather case shows up.... i will not be pocketing it like i have all my other phones... i don't want any dust in there!

I waited until payday to request the replacement, which was Friday. I received the new N1 today. They shipped FedEx express standard overnight. It cam from Houston and I am in East Texas, I don't know if that matters.

Upon inspection of the phone, I can't find any signs of it being a refurb, everything looks new. In the box is the phone only, no battery, sim, sd card, or back panel. It was in a small plastic bubble wrap bag in a foam padded box.

So far I can't find any dust under the screen and there are no clicking noises that others have seen (or heard).

Right now it is downloading the Nexus One update. I could use the force method that I used previously, but I want to see if anything is different.

After that I will be applying a full body skin from Best Skins Ever.

I wonder how long i would be phoneless if i sent it in for cleaning. Ive read that they can do this under warranty. I dont know if ill be able to let them hold 530 while im using a loaner. .. anyone know the turnaround time for something like this?

I considered this option, but you will be with out a phone for up to 2 weeks. Sometimes a little less.

WOW. thats too long. I can find $530 in that case. I can't be without a phone for longer than 3 days.

I should wait, then. I'll let it accumulate a bit more dust before I send it in. I already can't stand it because it's all right there at the bottom. I feel like it is staring at me more than I'm staring at it (the dust).

I got my first nexus one day after launch. Only days later, I had noticeable dust under the screen. Had it replaced from htc and no dust in a month

Same thing happened to me. I was so excited to get my case but after a couple of days I noticed dust under the screen. By by case and back to the pouch.

What kind of protection are you using if any? Screen protector? Case? Full body skin? Pouch?

How do you carry it? In the pocket or on the belt?

ive said this before............ its proven that the dust is from the TRACKBALL. its how it enters........... use it lightly........

So how has this explanation been proven - evidence?

How is your Nexus going by the way....

recieving it in about 2 hours.

and look at blackberry theres your proof its actually been proven more than 100 times. dust gets in through moving parts.with razr it got in due to extremely poor quality......... with phone with trackballs the dust gets in when the ball is pushed down making it one big open slot for it to get in......... why do you think blackberry switched to trackpad? and the desire and legend have them as well? the desire was made to improve on the nexus via an htc self outlet......... no google involved... therefore they fixed the trackball problem....

blackberrys switched because trackballs would stop working due to crap and dust getting under it........ and dust under the screens.

Bingo, gotcha.
For a start, your ordering the Nexus has got to be the longest in history!

As to your explanation, for a start, you talk about Blackberry.
Also, both myself and my wife have had Heros (trackballs again) made by HTC and never gas dust problems. The dust issue was likely caused by a batch made early in production.

If you are going to comment on this forum (though why you do so, god only knows), at least speak from experience of the actual model you are talking about.

Veryones different but trackballs are were dust comes in I've hAd 5 different trackball related devices. You have 2 lucky hero units LOL in fact this same thread is in the hero section in which over 40% have confirmed dust read more.

And yes my order did tAke a while due to me navi g to decide this or hd2 if you must know amongst other phones as well. I don't just leap at devices.

If the dust comes in from the trackball, why is the dust under my screen at the very top left hand corner? Hard to imagine it floated all the way there from the trackball port.

idk youll have to consult the thousands of other threads about it lol.

but thats where it comes from.

Ignorance is bliss.

Seriously, what are you, like 12?

Not, that I'm denying the possibility of dust entering through the trackball. But honestly, your argument convinces me that it ISN'T the trackball.

Oh, and a bunch of people saying "I think dust got in through there..." is NOT proof.

I just got off the phone with the rep and their sending me a "new" phone. I'm doing the swap with the $530 hold. He says the issue has been resolved. We'll see. I hate having to pull it out of the neoprene pouch every time I wan to answer a call or use the device. I have a very nice case from Seidio that I want to start using. Also, I've got a screen guard on the way from Clarivue so I didn't want to put it on a device I knew I'd eventually be returning. I really HOPE I have no issues with the new phone.

They said to make sure I had everything backed up. I've got Astro File Manager. Do I just go into Settings>Tools>Application Manager/Backup, then check all the apps and click Back Up? I want to make it as easy as possible to set my new phone up like my old one. Is there a way to save all my settings as well?
