Dutch John Utah - Glad I do not live there

Bob Maxey

The local news just reported that all postal services to Dutch John, Utah will soon stop. Residents will have to travel some 90 miles to Vernal to get their mail.

Comments?

I wouldn't mind the option to stop all of my mail. I can't remember the last time I got something in the mail and it was actually legit.

This is terrible, but I suppose something had to give. I remember a very lengthy thread about the USPS versus the UPS (not the official title but that is what it turned into). If this keeps up we will likely see people demanding the "regular mail" be delivered by private organizations.

The problem here is that this isn't optional, it is mandatory. People living in said rural town get to drive 90 miles to pick up their mail. This isn't even talking about driving to your local post office.

From the USPS report, they are only closing stores with other facilities within a 1.5 mile radius. They are also going to open more stores inside other places, like supermarkets. BTW, even if the office closes, it doesn't disrupt home delivery.

Apparently it is also being considered to ad a smaller outlet inside an already existing business. I know that we have some of those in our local grocery stores.

So long as people are not losing delivery to their residence, I have no issues with it.

Most bills come in electronically nowadays. What do I get in the mail? Junk! Paper is going the way of the dinosaur, imo. Big brother doesn't like paper. ;)

Where the hell is Dutch John, UT? I have lived in Utah pretty much my whole life, and have never even heard of the place. Lol. So i bet if the mail stops it will affect the population of around ten people.

If it's by Vernal, i doubt it's that big. I did hear that they may cut down on mail delivery to just three days a week. Which would mean an even longer wait for Gamefly, and Netflix.
