E-Bikes

It was in the low fifties when I went riding this morning. I rode my 21 mile loop and came home to watch the Chiefs play football. I saw nobody on my morning ride. After the game I went riding again. The temp had raised into the low to mid sixties and the wind had picked up some. It was pretty nice riding weather and I saw some riders and people out enjoying the day. I rode behind a guy on an e-bike for a mile or so. He wasn't pedaling... just riding. He stopped and turned around before I passed him. I'm guessing he was 12-14 years old. I found an unopened air chuck and pressure gauge on the road today. I searched it up on Amazon and sellers had the item listed from twenty two to twenty nine bucks. I would never buy this item but I'll put a quick coupler on it and put it in my shed. I rode by the item three times yesterday and twice today before I slowed down to see what it was.
I also stopped and offered assistance to a young man parked on the side of the road with his motorcycle. He had phoned a buddy to bring him some gas because he ran out. He had an interest in my bike so we discussed it a while before I headed on down the road. He was gone my next time around. I logged 54 miles today.
 
I rode both Monday and Tuesday. The weather was pretty nice for this time of year. I wasn't the only one out enjoying the day. I saw a couple of E-bike riders both Monday and Tuesday. I saw a E-trike yesterday while I was out mowing. It's great to see the riders enjoying the technology.
It rained over night and the temperature has fallen. There is a stiff North wind blowing today. It doesn't look positive for a bike ride today.
 
I did not get to ride yesterday. It was just lousy out so I passed. I was able to get a good ride in today. It was warmer and the wind was less than 10 mph and most of the afternoon under 5. I got in 44 miles after a late start. I could not find my Bose that I ride with. I had them Tuesday but they seem to be gone today. I bought them sometime this summer after having one of my old buds fall apart. I would be upset losing my buds but way upset with them being so new. It's pretty crazy that I can't find them!
I didn't see any one riding today. It was in the low sixties but the lack of wind and lots of sunshine made for a great day to ride. Riding without my tunes had me listening to the bike. The brakes have no squeaks now that they are broke in. The tires still have a noise but nothing like when they were new. The bike motor has a noise about it. It is just the sound of it running but it is what people hear when I ride up behind a pair of walkers before they go to one side of the sidewalk so I can safely pass them. It was interesting listening to the bike. One day of listening is enough however. :)
 
It was decent riding weather today. The temperature raised into the low sixties mid afternoon though it was pretty windy. It wasn't just lousy windy but enough to eliminate all other riders. There were a few out walking their dog of just walking for exercise. I rode 36 miles and was out of battery. Yesterday, with less wind, I rode 44 miles and still had some power left. The wind really takes a toll. I think it is such a factor because I try not to slow my cadence when riding into the wind. I don't down shift and I don't up the assistance level. I just fight into the wind. By riding like that, I'm pedaling extra hard which is demanding more assistance through the torque of my pedaling. It's good work on my legs and obviously more work by the motor and battery.
 
I rode both Saturday and Sunday. It wasn't ideal weather but plenty doable. It rained all day Monday and I had cataract surgery this morning. I see an optometrist tomorrow with hopes to be cleared to drive and ride my bike. My eye is still dilated from the surgery this morning and is not handling light well. I have hopes that tomorrow will be a far better day.

The company that bought Juiced bikes has pledged to gather as much parts inventory that can be had from Juiced and their suppliers and make them available for purchase. There is some hope...
 
I had a follow up with my optometrist this morning. Naturally, I was hoping to be cleared to ride. I'm allowed to drive but not ride my bike. He insisted I take the week off. The wind, dust, and vibration concerned him so in good conscience he wouldn't allow it this week. Big bummer but I'll comply.
 
I cheated just a day or two. Today is to be the last decent day to ride for a while. It was just too tempting. I geared up and went riding this morning before the football games. It was in the upper fifties with a strong wind from the South. I rode for just a short while and was back home. The cold wind was like a knife in my eye and I was afraid of doing damage so I chickened out. I watched the noon games then tried riding again. It was now in the lower sixties with just a slight West wind. My loop is almost straight South and then back North. West winds are a non factor as for chill and wind whistling around my riding glasses. I didn't push it and avoided all bumps the best I could. I logged 24 miles and must say it felt great to ride.
 
I went riding yesterday. It was in the mid forties with zero wind. My bike was calling my name so I bundled up and took her for a spin. I stayed fairly warm in my winter kit but my hands got miserably cold. I was wearing some expensive wind resistant gloves but they fell short of protecting my hands. They sell wind screens that fit over ends of the handlebar and over the brake and gear selector. The rider slips his hand into protection and the wind is diverted around the hand. I might be investing in the product. I rode 13 miles yesterday and enjoyed the first 10. I was too cold to continue. Forty five degrees with a wind of 25 mph feels like 22° according to my windchill chart.
 
There was a single digit North wind blowing but I had to take advantage of the temps in the low sixties. I only rode 21 miles and was low on battery. I should have charged up after Sunday's ride or taken the other battery. It was all well and fine because I needed to take my wife to an appointment later. I came home and got out of my winter kit and relaxed. The ride was fun. Thank goodness there is a day now and then to unwind on the bike.
 
The temps were again in the low sixties this afternoon which demanded some bike time. I had meat in the smoker so my time was limited to ride. I logged 27 miles and only saw one other cyclist on my ride. It felt great to be riding but 62° and wind gusting into low double digits made for a cool ride. Tomorrow's weather is to be much the same. I hope the wind isn't terrible.
 
Not only did I not get my wish about the wind not being terrible today, it was overcast and cold as well. I won't get to ride next week because of cataract surgery tomorrow. I hope it warms up the week following.
 
My cataract surgery was rescheduled and it was half decent weather today so I logged 22 miles.
It was far from ideal weather with a brisk South wind and temps in the mid fifties. It was perfect weather for mid December however and I'm glad I had a chance to enjoy some bike time. I did see one other cyclist while riding.
 
It wasn't a necessarily nice day but was decent enough to ride. Temps in the low fifties with a North wind in the double digits made for marginal riding conditions this afternoon. I decided to ride and was glad I did. Though it was chilly, it was sunny and felt good to be out. I saw one other rider and two walkers out enjoying the day. I rode 31 miles before I called it a day.
 
Today was pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday. The only difference was the wind was out of the South today and the North yesterday. I was tied up most of the day but managed to squeak in a little ride just before dark. I only had time for sixteen miles but that was better than not riding at all. I didn't see anyone riding today.
 
Yesterday was cold but today was pretty decent. A breeze from the South so slight it was a non factor and the temps warmed into the mid fifties. It was great riding weather and I logged 30 miles of enjoyment. I saw nobody riding today and only shared my loop with a couple of walkers.
I would like to think there would have been some out enjoying the day if was the weekend.

That does look very appealing! I would be saying to myself, I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore. :) My oldest daughter lived in the Phoenix area and I always marveled at the eye candy that would be enjoyed by the many bike paths they had when we visited the area. There is an effort and a lobbying group here making an attempt to add bike paths and designated bike lanes. Mostly the effort is reclaiming abandoned rail lines across Kansas for bike paths. There is beauty in the Kansas country but nothing quite like your video clip. :)
 
I got in a good ride yesterday. The weather wasn't decent but doable. I rode 35 miles and enjoyed my ride. I had to air up my back tire before riding. It wasn't flat but it was low. I will have to monitor the tire to see how fast it's loosing pressure. I saw two other riders yesterday.
One was an older gent that was out for a little ride in his residential area. The other was a young fellah all decked out in heavy winter riding gear. They both looked like they were enjoying their bike time.
 
We did some Christmas with my daughters family early this afternoon. I was stuffed by the time they left so I went for a ride before dark. I only managed 25 miles and called it a day because of the cold. It was in the high forties and there was a North wind adding to the chill. Regardless of the cold, it felt good to ride. I was the only guy out there today.
 
It was a nice day to ride today. I had some chores early and a dinner date with friends early evening so I only had a small window to enjoy the weather. I only rode 21 miles and was quite surprised that I didn't see any other riders. I had to air up my back tire before I rode. I'm afraid that I will have to break the tire down and patch another hole tomorrow or very soon. I don't like riding knowing that I have a leak.
 
I repaired my back tire this morning. The flat was caused by the tiniest piece of metal. I can't imagine what it was, how it actually penetrated my heavy duty tire, and caused a flat. It caused such a tiny hole in the tube that I had a difficult time finding it and an extremely hard time finding the burr in my tire.
It was cloudy but warm today so once I had my tube patched, I took a good ride. I managed 30 miles and only stopped because I was getting low on battery. Felt great! It was another day where I had my route to myself.
 
I went riding again yesterday. It was an incredible day to be outside doing something. I only rode 30 miles because I had made evening plans. With the temp in the low sixties and nearly zero wind, there were a lot of cyclists and walkers out enjoying the sunshine. Today it was a lot cooler with a great deal of wind. The wind has been in the 20+ mph range and the max gust I've clocked was 82.1 mph. Needless to say, there wasn't any riding going on today.
 
The weather has not cooperated with my riding habit of late. The weekend and next week look less than conducive as well. I am going into Wichita today to a Walmart like liquor store in hopes they have the beer I like. My local stores have been out for a couple of weeks. It just so happens that there is a huge sports shop right next door. My son was telling me that they have an amazing section for bikes and accessories. I always like looking at bike goodies. :)
 
I went to town and bought nothing at the sports shop. They had some nice clothing but it was way over priced in my opinion. They sold nothing but quality goods so it is good to know the play exists. I came home and went riding. It was only in the low forties but there was no wind.
Amazingly, I did see one other guy out braving the elements. Basically it was ride today or wait a couple of weeks. I logged 21 miles and will hit Amazon for a warmer face mask. :)
 
After riding yesterday and freezing my hands and face, I went shopping for some warmer warm gear. I'm pretty sure I will want to ride when the weather is in the low forties like yesterday and would like to ride when it's colder. The weather today is very crummy so I did my shopping on Amazon. I bought a better balaclava (face mask), invested in pogies for my handlebars, (wind protectors for my hands), and a helmet mount rear view mirror. My handlebar mounted mirror will have to be removed to use the pogies. There is nothing stylish about the gear I've ordered.
It is all in an effort to ride in the cold. Pogies are flat ugly. :) Everyone claim they are game changers.
