E-Bikes

The weather was lousy yesterday and today looks to be about the same. Fifty degrees is the predicted high with a strong wind from the South. I might have to get out and try to ride a bit in town where there is a bit of wind shelter. Today is supposed to be the nicest day in my ten day forecast. 😢

I went riding when it got into the high forties. They had the windy right but it managed to warm a few degrees above the forecast. I rode around in town until I got bored. I put on my balaclava and did one loop to the town South. I logged 26 miles before I put the bike up. It felt good to be riding but my nose has been running ever since my return. I was the only fool out riding this afternoon.

I've been fighting a cold ever since last Thursday. It was nice enough to ride yesterday but I was a good boy and stayed inside. I'm slowly feeling better but it will be too cold to ride this week. I'm missing my ride.

Well hope you feel better ;) my wife and I both had a bad cold 6 weeks ago and took us forever to get over, it lingered, so we know the feeling

I'm still recovering from that cold. It's pretty evident that my immune system isn't diddly anymore. Oh well.. I had a great run of being healthy. It is to warm above freezing and into the forties tomorrow. The high for Monday is to just squeak into the fifties. I have hopes that either Monday or Tuesday the snow packed (ice) residential roads will melt off and I can ride. I tried riding on some ice on the sidewalk last winter and it's dangerous. I'm anxious because today marked16 days since I last rode. I will just have to wait until I know it's safe. I'm ready!

A quick update: the forecasted highs was edited when I looked this morning and this week is to be around five degrees cooler each day. It almost reached forty today and there was a bit of slush on the roads this afternoon. Maybe ride Wednesday... maybe.

I drove my bike loop yesterday to see if I could ride it. It wasn't good. In town, snow melt is running across all of the low areas designed to drain the city. That means I would have to ride slow through and beyond each intersection a bit or have ice water sprayed on me. Once out of town, the sidewalk was clear of snow except where it was crossed by streets and roads. The snow plows had cleared the roads but piled it onto the sidewalks as it passed them. The worst area I travel was the sidewalk in the town South. Being as it is used by students, the city had removed the snow leaving a continuous pile on both sides of the six foot wide walk. One side or the other had snow melt running across the walk just about the entire length I travel. The highway siding that I use for my return trip had been plowed along with the state highway and was clear. If I don't get to ride today, tomorrow is looking very good. The high today is to be forty seven degrees and tomorrow fifty nine!

It was predicted to reach fifty degrees Wednesday but it didn't get there. The wind was out of the North and mid to high forties felt much colder. I didn't ride. Today the high was to be fifty nine so I headed out when it was in the mid fifties. The wind wasn't blowing so it felt warmer. In fact, I almost got hot before I came home.
I was hot for a reason, my phone and station agreed that it was sixty seven degrees and I was dressed for the fifties. It felt great to be riding again. I didn't see any other cyclists but I did see quite a few pedestrians. A lot of dog walkers were out and I noticed the doggie park I pass was very busy. Everyone was taking advantage of the first decent day of weather we've had in nearly a month. It was a great day to be out!! I logged 40 miles and my battery was low so I called it a day.

It was a bit cold with a gusty wind from the North today. I decided I would ride anyway. I had fun in spite of the weather. On my way South on the sidewalk I was suddenly passed by a young cyclist. He was wearing biking shorts and a t-shirt that had something air force printed on the back. He wave and weaved in front of me but really wasn't traveling much faster than I was. I was just cruising and was likely traveling under 20 mph. I made no effort to pass him but I remained close behind him. When we both started up the large hill that requires gear shifting and additional rider effort. The young man naturally slowed so I pulled up beside him. We eyed each other's bike. He had a nice and new looking road bike. He smiled at me and gestured to me to show off the e-bike. I dramatically upped the assistance to sport and took off. In sport with a bit more than normal effort my bike will climb the hill at 30mph and do 35 on a level surface. He laughed as I took off. I could see him getting smaller in my mirror. :)

I went riding once it warmed into the mid fifties. It topped out at sixty while I was riding. There was a strong South wind blowing or it would have been a nice day.
I saw three kids riding on e-bikes in town. They were riding and not pedaling. I guess they get off on effortless riding. I saw one jogger on the walk South. I think most people were put off by the chill of the wind. I dressed warm and enjoyed my ride. I logged 36 miles.
