Help E-Mail Issues - Galaxy S II

Hey guys.
Having some issues with the E-mail application which comes with the SII.

First problem is that when I receive e-mails, within 5 minutes, they disappear...
It's set on never delete from server, and I can't find anything else to do with saving them. I want my e-mails to stay on my phone for future reference.

Second problem. If i receive them on my phone, I don't receive them on my PC.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks, Ross

(Sorry if i'm meant to use some sort of format or something, give me a heads up If i need to re-post somewhere else!)

When I had my iphone it would save the messages even if they got deleted from the server.

With the g2 if they get deleted from the server then they also get deleted from the phone. Which means I am storing up emails which will take an increasing amount of time to collect as my inbox gets bigger.

Any solutions?

Hi, I've got the same issue and no solution yet.

I have two e-mail accounts set up on my phone. On both of them they disappear at some point.

On my home account they often never make it to the pc.

On my work account they appear to always get to the pc.

Any ideas?

Mine stay on. I sync back one week and the ones I got on Tuesday are still there to read. I imagine that when tuesday/wednesday comes and I check back, last tuesdays messages won't be there for me to read.

And surly, if it's deleted off the server, but your phone doesn't recognise that, it's bad syncing???

Because the server is the head - where everything is, and the devices sync off that.

All I know is that the Samsung Microsoft Exchange is supposed to be one of best, if not the best one. Although try "K-9". Many people prefer it, regardless of what phone they've got. :)

Thanks for that comment.

My e-mails will not stay on the phone if my computer is logged onto the same account. They download immediately.

Also, if my computer gets to the e-mail first then the phone never gets it at all. And vice versa.

Seems very strange.

Hi, Ross and others. I have made a bit of progress.
On one of my accounts changing the outlook setting to say 'never delete from server' worked so the e-mails stay on my phone. But on my Virgin media account it didn't work - I need to get the settings changed on their server. I'm finding that difficult to get right.

Hi Guys,

I have had the Galaxy S2 about a month now and I am having the same problems.

I have several POP accounts configured including an ntlworld.com account.

All the accounts are set to leave the email on the server.

Sometimes the email notification shows and when I go to the account to read the email it disappears before I can even open it.

Non of the accounts are retaining email on the phone once it has been downloaded, so I can’t reference it later.

I have tried the suggested delete and re-add the account but this hasn’t worked either.

It’s beginning to get very annoying.

There is a simple solution to this and it's already been mentioned.

Use K-9, it's a big improvement on the built-in email client and no harder to set up.

It's also free and not ad supported, you can't go wrong.

Thank you for the suggestion, however using another email client still doesn't solve the initial problem.

Still having problems regarding POP3 email.

The emails come in to the phone using the default client OK which I use during the day.

My servers are set to retain a copy of the email on the server.

When I get home I download my email to my laptop.

Go back to the email accounts on the phone and all the email has then gone.

So the phone does not retain the email once downloaded from the server.

Another issue is, I have a NTL World email account on the phone and I get a notification that an email has arrived, sometimes it disappears before I can even open it.

I didn't have any issues like this with the iPhone so I'm not sure what's going on.

I have looked around other forums and I'm not the only one having this issue but I can't find a resolution.

Dear guys,

I think everyone have the same problem here. Well to cut it short, im having a difficulty too in retaining my mails.

Here is the problem in a nutshell:
Configured work mail to samsung S2 phone. All mails shown both in PC and phone. Cleared mails from server and all mails in phone gone but luckily PC retains the mail.

The question here, how do you retain the mail in the phone although mails being deleted from the server?

You guys kind enlightenment is greatly appreciated.

wombat

Hi Chaps,

I have just sent the following to Samsung -

Dear Sir / Madam,

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 in June and have am having a great deal of trouble with email.

I have my accounts configured using POP3 email.

The emails come in to the phone using the default client (The Social Hub) OK which I use during the day.

My servers are set to retain a copy of the email on the server.

When I get home I download my email to my laptop.

Go back to the email accounts on the phone and all the email has then gone.

So the phone does not retain the email once downloaded from the server.

Another issue is, I have a NTL World (Virgin Media) email account on the phone and I get a notification that an email has arrived, sometimes it disappears before I can even open it.

I didn't have any issues like this with the iPhone so I'm not sure what's going on.

It would appear form all the forums I have looked at I am not alone with this problem, so maybe some input form Samsung may help.

Please see some of the forum threads provided -

Why do emails disappear on my Samsung Galaxy S2?

This is now beginning to get rather annoying, so I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Thank you.

Dave.

Hey all,

I had this problem way back with my Xperia X10 and HTC Desire and found the best solution was to set up my pop3 email accounts in the phones as IMAP.

If your email provider uses IMAP, then it will just (as far as I know) simply sync the two. So if you delete on the PC, it deletes on the phone also, and vice versa.

Don't know if this will help but its what I do to solve it.

Cheers

Biff.

Hi Chaps,

I got the following response from Samsung -

Please use the link provided to get the settings for your e-mail sent to your phone. Once you recieve the
settings select save and this should resolve your issue.

Configure Phone

If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help.

I haven't had chance to test it yet, so if anyone does please post back if it works ok.

Thanks,
Dave.

I don't see k-9 when I look for it on the android market icon from my phone.

When I click on the link direct to it, it says its not compatible with the i9100 phone.

Hi everyone

I have also experienced this problem although only recently after starting to use outlook 2010. The emails came through on my galaxy s2, I read them on my phone and deleted them. Usually do this cause on my outlook 2007 they were always downloaded from my email server when I checked for new emails. But since using outlook 2010, I discovered that once an email was deleted off my phone it never showed in outlook anymore even after pressing send receive. What is of importance is the fact that both outlook 2010 and my galaxy s2 had imap settings. As mentioned above in outlook 2007 no issues whatsoever.

Long story short, deleted my account from both my phone and outlook. Thereafter set the account up again, however in both outlook and on my phone I set the account up manually and used pop3.xxxx.xxx as incoming server and outgoing server the normal smtp.xxxx.xxx

Voila problem solved (at least for me lol). My email arrives automatically on the phone (as before), I read it and then delete it (not needed on my phone, prefer to keep my emails in outlook). Then opened my outlook, sent received my emails and there the email was. Then tried the opposite. Received the email on both phone and outlook. Deleted the email in outlook and it still stayed on my phone.

Hopefully my longwinded answer helps everyone out there using the built in social hub on galaxy s2.

Cheers

I use San Diego Roadrunner from Time Warner, and have my email set up as a POP account. When I get a notification of an email I may be able to open it, or it will dissappear when opened. If I am able to open it, it disappears when I close it.

Does anyone have a solution? This disappearing email has been a known android issue for a long, long, time.

Thank you,

Terry
