Help E-mail Notifications

I recently got a new stratosphere and for some reason it will not give me a notification when i get new emails in gmail. I have to go in to gmail and refresh if i want to see if i have no emails. My old strat didnt do this. Can anyone help?
 
Hi and welcome to Android Forums. First make sure that you have the settings checked off for new notifications. I know it may seem silly for me to say it but I can't tell you the number of times I reset a phone and forget about checking to make sure that those little things are set up again.
