Do any of these units exist? I mean I don't really need some of the major android offered in tablets, and was wondering if any e-readers can run android apps?

Do you mean real ereaders with e-ink displays? If so, I don't know of any but there are color readers that run Android. These are devices that I know of and are classified by the manufacturer as ereaders but are based on Android.

I meant colour readers, basically I just need a unit that operates on android to run applications, so maybe an e-reader would be better since i don't need many of the other features found in tablets.
Definitiely stop by B&N and check out the Nook Color... 2.2 running on mine overclocked to 1.1GHz from a Class 10 SDCard is giving me Quadrant scores ~2000 and runs Flash10 and about anything else you might want to run on a small tablet with caveat being no Full size USB to allow plugging in external dongles like 3G and GPS etc... but tethered to a phone all of that functionality is already available...

+1 on the nook. Out of the three I gave as suggestions, the nook is by far the best one.

JT- which 2.2 are you running? I didn't know which 2.2 was best to use for the nook so I just autonootered instead. I looked at all the 2.2 threads at XDA and all of them had mixed reviews.
I started with the base Froyo setup on sdcard from nookdevs added all the tips and gapps etc... then when dalingrin posted his 1.1GHz test kernel for 2.2;

I loaded that up immediatly and haven't looked back since... to get speeds like I've gotten to from running from sdcard you do really need a very fast (Class 10) sdcard... I bought a few Kingmax 4GB Class-10 that had been highly rated in independent tests from buy.com and what a difference they made vs. my older Sandisk Class-4!
