Root E:Verification Failed (HTC Desire) android update.

My phone tried to update to the latest android version.

OTA_Bravo_Froyo_Virgin_Mobile_2.22.351.2-1.23.351.1_P2_release41dmzfv61rlsko0p.zip

when it goes into system recovery to begin the install I get the following.

Build: RA-desire-v2.0.1
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:No signature (645 files)
E:Verification Failed
Installation aborted.

Any ideas how to get it to continue?

My phone is rooted, im guessing this has something to do with it.
Do I need to unlock the bootloader?
 
You should not be trying to apply an OTA update in this way. You would have broken things if you had been unlucky enough to succeed.

What is your ultimate aim? Unroot?
 
My phone automatically checked and asked me to update it via software update.

The ultimate aim is to have the latest version of android on a rooted phone
and maybe experiment with a couple of themes and roms.

I did do a nandroid backup prior to trying to break things.

The details of my software are:
Firmware- 2.1-update1
software number 1.23.351.1
 
Gosh that's old. You can get 2.3 Roms now.

Read the rooting faq in the "all about root" sticky thread. Some of it won't be relevant now but please do

you mustnt do it by ota if you are rooted, it will cause you big problems
if you are rooted flash a stock rom with latest ota build like teppics

So is there a way to upgrade android to the latest version?
Im new to having a htc phone so if there is instruction please bare that in mind.

That is the details of my phone. At this stage I feel almost sorry to ask, but can you post me the links to the files I need.

If I guess at it, im almost certanly gonna end up with an expensive brick. Id rather leave it up to the professionals to advise me.

So I would probibaly not have updated that 'not knowing any better'

Hi, if i download and try to install what i have listed below from rastaman-fb's links, will i be ok, from the details that i've already provided.

If I download this rom - 2.10.405.2 INIT.D ROM v2.0

2.10.405.2-initd-rooted-stock-v2.zip (144.32 MB)

Will that be ok?

I am about to reboot my HTC Desire and try installing it, should I continue?
 
All went well, I have the extra options that i was after, now to play and enjoy the new version. Thanks su and rastaman.
