I have an Evo Shift and I'm having problems with it. Whenever I slide the keyboard out to use it, my screen locks up. I usually have to take my battery out to fix the problem, but whenever I do this the ear piece stops working and I have to use the speaker phone. Sometimes the ear piece starts working after a couple of days, but it's been over a month since it's worked. I don't live close to a repair center and was wondering if there was anything I can do to get it working again.

Sounds like some sort of hardware problem. If the phone is under warranty, then you should be able to get it replaced.
A suggestion that might fix your problem is to do a Factory Reset.
Make sure all of your contacts are backed up on your Gmail account.
Then do a Factory Reset.
As for reloading your app, when you log into the Google Play Store, you can see all of the apps you have ever download listed there and then reinstall them.
