Help Earpiece Not Working?

Hey All,

All of a sudden, I can't hear anyone when on a call using the earpiece. Speakerphone works fine, but when I toggle back - nothing. The other party can hear me just fine. I've tried rebooting, removing the battery and even plugging in and unplugging a pair of headphones (that I never use with the phone, anyway), but to no avail.

It's dead to my ear - no "open air" sound - as if it's not even on.

Anyone have - and solve - this issue short of hard resetting or replacing the device?

TIA

I have the same problem. It just started today. I have had the Droid since 12/2009 with no problems using an earpiece for phone calls, then suddenly...dead to my ear, but yes, they can hear me.

Did you ever find a solution?
Strange, as my problem started today as well. Sadly, no resolution yet. I did a factory reset (this is the second reset for me now - I'm actually writing a procedure to follow for the NEXT time I need to reset). I've put in an order for a new phone. Since I'm within 30 days, I get a new one instead of a refurb. Still, I'd really like to solve the problem now!

Your problem is the "silent bug" not your speaker. Check out the Eris forum for lots of info about it. Only fix is to reboot the phone then wait for it to happen again...

If only it were that simple - or flaky. I've rebooted, taken the battery out, done factory reset, performed a rain dance and called MacGyver. This seems like a physical hardware failure.

I've got a new one on order from VZW. I'm assuming it's going to be a month-long wait. :(

I was having the same issue. Not sure if this is what did it, but I took out my battery while my phone was still on, replaced it, turned on my phone again, and it worked. Good luck, it was a real pain not being able to use my phone as, you know, a phone.
