Root Easiest Root method for Mac user???

Ok so I am sure this is somewhere but I have searched and can not find it. I am an Evo user, and I am thinking of switching to an Epic for something to play with for a while.

I picked one up today, and one of the major criteria is I must be able to root it. It seems there are all sorts of methods for PC, but I have yet to find a reliable seeming method for a mac user. Can someone please point me in the right direction???

Also I use Fresh on my Evo, but have no idea what to use for an Epic. Is the process similar in you download rom manager and flash it, then you can download ROMS from there?

Thanks for the help.

Updated.
I decided to just do it on the parallels side of my mac. Seems like it went fine. I have super user permissions showing up.

I downloaded Rom manager and was going to flash clockworkmod recovery. It gives me the option for samsung epic, but when I select it, it says failed every time. Just for curiosity I tried one of the other ones and it worked fine......

What gives? What should I do??

BTW my choices are
Galaxy S i9000
Galaxy S Fascinate
Samsung Epic
Galaxy S Vibrant
Galaxy S Captivate
and Tab for Verizon, ATT and T-mobile.

Everyone seems to work but the Epic one.

One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! v2.5.5 Now has ClockworkMod Redirector! - xda-developers

Has Mac directions as well (don't own a Mac so doesn't mean anything to me).

Rom Manager can be buggy on the Epic so personally I would advise against it. Things may have improved since the last time I looked at it though!

LOTS of ROMs HERE though!

Some ROMs will require Ext4 partitions. You'll need to do [MOD][One Click Root] Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5/6 - UPDATED FOR EB13! - xda-developers but don't know how that'll work on a Mac.

Kelmar,
That is the one I used and I did it on the Windows side of my mac. I guess there is an issue with the epic part of Rom Manager. It said something about samsung users must flash a clockwork compatible kernel first....not sure what that means.

Actually for now if I can just get wireless tether on there I will be happy til I have more time. Gonna see if I can find the one to use?

Blame it on ROM Manager :)

Easiest way to see if you have recovery is to power off the phone and push and HOLD the volume down key, camera key and power button. If it loads into recovery (any color but blue) you are ready to go!

As far as wifi tether, what build are you currently on (EB13?)...?

Did what you said and I got a green screen that says clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.0

As far as build I am not sure what you are asking...sorry if that is stupid.

Firmware is 2.1-update 1
Baseband S:D700.0.5s.DI18
Kernel 2.6.29
Build Number SPH-D700 Eclair.DI18
Hardware Version D700.0.5

Does that help

Also while I was at it a few more questions...

Since I did this
"Some ROMs will require Ext4 partitions. You'll need to do [MOD][One Click Root] Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5/6 - UPDATED FOR EB13! - xda-developers but don't know how that'll work on a Mac."

Am I good to go on all the ROMS. I would be ok with this basic one, but I would like something that uses Froyo. Any recomendations for a reliable build with this?

Also I know on Evo it was important to turn off automatic updates so it did not mess up your Root or freeze your phone. Do you need to do this with Epic and if so where is the setting?

Then you are rooted with the necessary recovery! :) You are on Eclair DI18 as opposed to EB13 Froyo, if that matters to you.

Try THIS to get to Froyo. :)

Negative. You don't have to turn off any updates with the Epic. If any come through they will fail because they check for certain files (which you won't have).

One last thing. I downloaded 2.0.7 from here
Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

it seems to be working fine. Thanks in advance for all your answers.

Glad you found one that works!

You rock! I appreciate it very much and will look at the Froyo Link. What Rom would you recommend with Froyo running?

Seems easy except for I don't know what these mean...

4. Clear Dalvik, and Data
5. Flash the zip with CWM

I know damn rubes....it is weird how different it is then Evo

I'm personally waiting for CM7, but that one is pretty similar to what I'm running now. Some users prefer Midnight ROM, others Syndicate, others Epic....

To do those steps boot into recovery using the 3finger death grip (volume down key, camera key and power botton). Wipe Data, Cache and go to the advanced tab and wipe Dalvik Cache (each 3 times). Then click "install zip from SD card" and select the .zip file that you had on the SD card.

Better to ask and play it safe when you aren't sure! :)

doesent root work using Linux?

I think that the intel macs can run the x86 versions of Linux

if so just use one of the many free distros like ubuntu maybe and bootcamp or just the live CD and you should be able to do this
