Root easiest way

i am completely lost when it comes to all this rooting stuff. it all sounds so amazing and i would love to be able to do it. i have no idea how to even come close to doing it. and i dont wanna brick out my phone and have wasted the money... can anyone help a root challenged person to possibly achieve greatness on the incredible? lol . Thank you for whoever helps me out on this and doesnt flame me for being a android rookie.

unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.1

Check out "hboot driver.htm" in the files that are extracted, and do that before plugging in your phone.

Just use unrevoked! All you have to do is:
1) Download http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.1/reflash_package.exe
2) Run it and extract the files somewhere
3) Follow the instructions here public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]
4) Open 'reflash.exe'
5) Go to settings->Applications->Development->Enable USB debugging
6) Plugin your phone to your computer
