Root Easy guide to update to Galaxo or GAOSP!

I edited the header again. It seems like people are having trouble using the updater drakaz made and easyroot.

I thought installing the recovery was now much simpler, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Is there going to be any new Galaxo version?

I don't think anyone knows, the latest was a surprise. It's pretty much come to a point where everything is working just fine in my opinion. ;)

He should work on GAOSP, like he's doing right now. It's becoming better and better! :D

Did you try any version of GAOSP?

And I agree, Drakaz should concentrate on improving, fixing bugs and releasing a "stable" version of GAOSP.

From what I've heard, the latest nightly seems to be great (I have no use for bluetooth at all). I'm going to try it out in a couple minutes. And yeah, I've tried the betas, some nightlies, but I never kept them more than a couple days. I used to mess around much more with my phone, now I'm only theming it a little bit now and then. I still read pretty much everything in here though, even though I'm busy all over the forum. :)

I probably won't keep the nightly again this time, as I'll need to unlock my phone to get the market working. I'd really like to have Angry Birds working without lag and Fruit Ninja too though. If they work fine on the nightly, well, screw the market. ;)

Funny thing, I'm running Galaxo with o/c and compcache enabled (50 000kb). I thought it was funny when you suggested these settings (I was already using the exact same thing).

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to root my Galaxy for almost 3 days and I always have the same problem. When I reboot in Fastmode and gove the comand
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
i receive the message
fastboot: command not found

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the odin software doesn't recognise the phone so that I can root it in graphic mode.

Any suggestion?
Thank you in advance

I`ve been using GAOSP and its nice, but the thing is that is slow, and i dont dig slow.i restored my nandroid galaxo backup, i still have the nightly thou in slot 2.

Off topic: Does anyone knows of a pdf reader that can render pages white text on black background?

In long term yes. But if you do it wisely it will not affect it so (playing games, or some memory and CPU resourceful apps). Try 614 MHz for starters, 710 MHZ is max (stable).

yeah..... the Megaupload link in step one says "file is temporary unavailable"

Anywhere else I could get ADB drivers?

I've followed every instruction to a "T"!! I am now running android 1.6.3.3 on my Galaxy i7500L with Bell!! Yes, after I installed I noticed great changes and recieved a phone call from my father.......but it doesn't show 3g network and says I am currently not connected to a network when I try to run anything..... when I connect wi-fi it runs beautifully!

Any help?

You simply have to enter the APN settings again.

Press the Menu key
Tap Settings
Tap Wireless controls
Tap Mobile networks
Tap Access Point Names
Press the Menu key
Tap New APN

I only know the Bell Mobility APN, so here it is. IF you're not on Bell, you should look on your carrier's website for it. Or call them, they will tell you what to write.

Name: Bell Internet
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type: Internet + mms
Authentication Type: none

Also, I recommend updating to Galaxo 1.6.3.4 as soon as possible, as you probably don't want to setup your phone twice.

The hard part was installing the recovery. To get the latest Galaxo, you have to download two files: Galaxo 1.6.3.4 and the Gapps for Galaxo (Gapps stands for Google apps). Both of these should be .zip files. When they are both on the phone, reboot into the recovery mode, do a wipe, select apply any .zip, select Galaxo. Reboot into recovery, select apply any zip again and this time select Gapps. You can now enjoy the latest Galaxo. :D

That's it. There are a few improvements in Galaxo 1.6.3.4, but I don't remember exactly as it's been a while.

Hats off to you sir!!

This runs beautifully now!!

Now......2.1 eh??

don't really use the camera that much.
(it's amazing what you can learn in a day of being home sick in front of the computer)

Seriously tho, Mr DaSchmarotzer... you sir are a true hero in my eyes!! Amazing!!!

No, you can skip Android 2.1 (Eclair) and go straight for Android 2.2.1 (Froyo). But 'cause you're on Bell you will have trouble accessing Market and going to use workaround for Gmail (google services). For more info on that look here

Alright, I've setup 1.6, siad "f*ck it" and mapped 2.1 Eclair on. (can switch back in a sec.) It works great!!! ....but after reappling APN settings, I get a message saying "error while searching networks"

Still recieving phone calls and txt messages, just no 3g network. Are the apn settings different? Is there any way to keep this version and make it work?

The eclair isn't supported anymore by drakaz, you should go for froyo (Android 2.2) - aka as GAOSP nightly.

Now working via wireless!! There's gotta be something with APN, I'm crazy close here!!
Have the Froyo 2.2 downloaded, but usb islocked in garage till roomate gets home. trying to make this work but NOW working on wireless

.....can almost taste it!!!!

Okay, so on Eclair 2.1 and everything is working fine with anything phone related!! Google maps, gmail, market is still at 50% (Wi-Fi only)

I have the (Froyo 2.2).zip downloaded, but it doesn't say anything about the recovery to use for fastboot or th rectool files...am I not typing the proper txt into the search bar here, I've tried everything (I think) lol

So for the past 3 days I've been trying to update to 1.6.3.4, was able to root my phone, was able to upload the firmware, was able to do just about anything I needed....but then when I went to go get Google Apps installed using the 6.4 recovery image nothing shows up, so I'm stuck with a phone that doesn't have my contacts, no market place or anything!

I've been reading forums, all over the place, but can't get this thing to work.

And like the idiot I am I copied over my backup so I can't go back to my old setup...help! Please!

Ok, so basically you've got everything working except for the Google apps, right?

All you've got to do is download the Google Apps, put the .zip on your phone, boot into the recovery mode, select apply any zip and select the Google apps file.

There you go. ;)

Make sure Gapps is on the internal SD card. Then, once you've played with Galaxo for a week, give GAOSP a try. Sure, the market isn't working ( unless you unlock the phone and flash the Brazilian baseband on ), but there are alternative markets that should cover what you need. 3D Navigation on GAOSP sold me on it. Can't see how I could ever go back to 1.6 ( unless I start having serious problems ! )

im running galaxo 16.3.4, and i managed to delete some files and fck up the market, its not downloading anymore, can i flash galaxo again without having to reinstall all my apps, setting and crap? i have titanium backup, but that's not a solution.

I had the same problem. reinstalled galaxo and all became normal again. I think if you delete the provider files like IM PROVIDER, GMAIL PROVIDER CONTACTS PROVIDER etc this problem happens. I deleted gmail provider and ended up in that problem.
