Root Echo during calls

Didn't really notice this as much before my phone went away for repair but after using a phone without it it's really annoying!

In a call I sometimes get an echo back of my own voice during a call. I've ruled out the rom/network as I've changed both of them and still have it. My other phone also doesn't do it.

My next thought is the radio as it's something I've never touched. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it before I bother flashing anything? Or is it just down to bad hardware?

I used to get this every now and again, only when I called the girlfriend though.
I didn't do anything to change it, it just went.
Saying that though I probably flashed new ROMs coz that's what I do!

I've only had this problem when I've called a certain other person, so I assumed it was their end (maybe on hands free and the mic is picking the sound up from the speaker??) Done it every time I have spoken to them (a business,) but not had it happen calling any one else.
